Learning from architects: transformation, simplicity and passing it on.   I learn from all the business leaders and owners I work with. Like my recent chat with architect Richard Tinto.   We discussed all things business, like Richard’s vision and strategy for future growth.   One thing that really stuck in my memory was Richard’s answer when I asked him what he does. What’s the result for the customer?   “Transformation” he replied. “We help our customers transform the space they have into what they want. It’s much more and richer than the physical properties of what’s built.”    Richard described other aspects of his business and how it is, unsurprisingly, consultative and involves much to-ing and fro-ing.   What struck me most, however, was how he summed it up in that one word: transformation. I like the simplicity.   It fitted our surroundings that day.   We’d met at Greyhope Bay and I mentioned to Richard that Gokay Deveci, Professor of Architecture was Greyhope Bay’s architect. Then Richard told me that Gokay had taught him, at RGU’s Scott Sutherland School of Architecture. Gokay’s words about Greyhope Bay are on the wall:   “I think there’s one thing more valuable than anything else. It’s to do with the people who have dreams. People who want to achieve something can look at [the Greyhope Bay centre] and say “yes, it can be done.” It might take ages, years, pain, but it can be done. It gives hope: I think that’s the most wonderful thing about this project. I think of other people with big dreams. This for them.”   The transformation message is being passed on through generations of architects. I like that. #SME #Governance #Leadership
