❌ I could delete it from my resume ❌ ✂ I could cut it from my LinkedIn Profile ✂ But I don't want to. ... ☕ I was a shift supervisor at a downtown Starbucks on the morning shift.☕ It's not directly related to my "big-C" Career. It's not explicitly white collar, or corporate, or prestigious. But it matters. It's part of my story. It was the MORNING SHIFT. At a DOWNTOWN store. I called the line, I assigned and rotated staff, did inventory and smiled and coached and wiped counters and cleaned bathrooms. I made outrageously complicated drinks and brewed carafes upon carafes of coffee. Put simply - I learned about prioritization, delegation, teamwork, marketing, conflict management, customer service and goal setting. You can only push so many things forward at once. Push on things that have a domino effect. Focus on things that you can do ONCE that compound. Example: Talking to clients every day (Which is great to do). VS. Creating a process ONE time and hiring an overseas CSR.

My first role out of college was an HR Assistant Manager role at a national moving company. Did I have a lot of experience? No. I had half a semester of admin work senior year for the Office of Ethics and Conflict Resolutions. I had also been a cart girl at a golf course and a cashier at Lowe’s for two summers. Fortunately, I was interviewed by a hiring manager who saw my potential, character, work ethic, and developing skillset. It’s very easy to look at a piece of paper and assume that just because you don’t see years of experience, the person is not qualified or can’t do the job. In some cases, this is true. In others, it absolutely is not. Perhaps the candidate has what is truly needed to perform effectively in the role. Give someone a chance. You might surprise yourself. And if you do, make sure you are prepared to invest in their development and training as needed. #hiring #talentacquisition #employment #linkedin #leadership
