Game Dev is seldom one step forward and two steps back when it comes to prototyping using experimental features. I created the proof of concept for Fair Fortunes back in September using Mass AI for the crowd. Due to a lack of documentation, I thought it would be better to have my programmers build the crowd system from scratch. After a successful Level Up showcase, the biggest missing element from the game loop was the crowd system. The team's resources could not keep up. This past week I gave #UnrealEngine #MassAI another shot. I noticed more tutorials and even a GitHub example for reference that shed more light on the Fragments and Traits features of the AI system. Today, I have taken five steps forward toward realizing the design of Fair Fortunes. This video demonstrates a small clip of 100s of Mass AI agents in the already detailed level of FF running at more than acceptable framerates. Although with simple behaviours, the potential to expand on this implementation is now unlocked. New Features added: - Dynamic LODs for Agents based on distance and locked spawn counts (LODs include High/Low BPs and even instanced SM at large distances) - Implementation for walking and stationary pedestrians (Separate behaviours, Zone Graphs and BPs) - Avoidance for Player and Clown (Smart Objects and Avoidance traits) - More robust navigation and collision detection

Microsoft Copilot AI can help you play Minecraft 🕹 During the recent Microsoft keynote, one announcement stood out for me: Copilot's ability to not only talk to you but also see your screen while you play a video game, e.g. Minecraft. It provides real-time voice assistance to help you learn and navigate the game. This assistant was built on GPT-4o in collaboration with OpenAI Check out this 2-minute demo. The whole conference is worth watching too, but maybe on 2x speed! 😉
