A few key takeaways from the Center for Effective Philanthropy research on thr #MacKenzieScott grants: 1. The absorption capacity is going to be very dependent on existing infrastructure and whether existing funders have provided a decent foundation on which to take in a vast sum like Scott gives. 2. Scott’s grants are game-changing but can often be smaller than what a recipient communicates would be the right amount to fully take their work to the next level. 3. Due diligence processes differ for each candidate. They can be short and quick or longer and a bit more arduous. A lot depends on whether an org has been through this kind of diligence before. 4. The experience is different for orgs in the US vs the Global South. This will be interesting if Yield Giving does expand. 5. Other funders are taking notice and considering how to start giving more like Scott. For some funders there’s pushback on this. Others not so much. 6. Scott’s giving dwarfs other philanthropic giving by almost ten times.

Very excited to hear from Center for Effective Philanthropy on their study re #MacKenzieScott gifts and effect on philanthropy. But man.... would have been great if they could open the chat so we could discuss with each other and not be blocked out from networking / exchanging views during the discussion. I know they have so many registrants and it may be overwhelming, but the benefit of webinars and online work is using these platforms to learn from each other and share ideas!
