I've worked on health access issues in various ways for the better part of 20 years, and I am thrilled that Tish Dahlby, the Extra Good, LLC, and I team are helping Sloan Kennedy Smith and InCommunity transform how they engage their village. We are just hours away from a major public event supporting our neighbors with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My heartfelt thanks go to Sarah McCormick, Reanna Karousis, and Kate Balzer, MPA for your unwavering dedication to this vital project. Your contributions have been invaluable. #areyouin

“Nothing About Us Without Us”, long a mantra in the disability community, has inspired a societal shift in thinking, doing, and working. This shift is exemplified by the The World Health Organization’s “Nothing for us without Us” 2022 publication, and its 2024 symposium on Meaningful Engagement. It addresses the crucial need for people living with health conditions, and their loved ones, to be meaningfully engaged in decisions impacting their health and well-being. "Nothing About Us Without Us" has been a driving force in patient engagement. Co-creating with people with lived experience is one of the tenants of Patient Engagement. The disability community has led and shaped this seismic shift. I am grateful. #DisabilityPrideMonth #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #ADAis34 #PatientEngagement

For our first #DisabilityPrideMonth CACTI Blog, we are focusing on the important theme of ending stigma around disabilities. In this piece, Sonoran Center Trainee Andrew Leung shares his story on changing the view of normalcy in healthcare. "Society’s views play a large part in determining 'normal' through conventions, customs, and routines. This ideology has a large influence on healthcare practices which can impact how disabled individuals experience life and receive care. By including disability training in education, there can be changes in attitudes, skills, and knowledge among the new generation of healthcare professionals." Empowering Patients With Intellectual Disabilities: Your Care, Your Decisions 🌟 At The Real Gut Doctor, we believe every patient deserves to make informed decisions about their health. Sadly, only 30% of primary care residency programs offer training on how to assess the decision-making abilities of patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This gap can lead to overly restrictive guardianship that diminishes patient autonomy. Our Mission: We are dedicated to offering compassionate, inclusive care that respects and empowers our patients. Supported decision-making allows individuals with disabilities to receive assistance from a supporter, helping them make their own informed decisions—a less restrictive alternative to guardianship. Why Choose Us? Expert Care: Led by Dr. Jeffrey Mark, a 5X board-certified MD, our practice is committed to understanding and respecting your unique needs. Inclusive Environment: We use person-first language and foster a culture of respect and understanding. Empowerment: We believe in empowering patients with the tools and support their need to make informed health decisions. Take Action Now: Don't wait to get the care you deserve. At The Real Gut Doctor, we’re here to support you and your loved ones every step of the way. Reach out today to discover how we can help you navigate the complexities of healthcare with compassion and respect. 🌟 Empower Your Health Decisions Today! 🌟 #DisabilityRights #InclusiveCare #PatientEmpowerment #TheRealGutDoctor #DrJeffreyMark #RespectAndDignity #HealthForAll #AutonomyInCare #CognitiveDecline #DementiaPrevention #DementiaAwareness #AlzheimerDrugFreeTreatmentOptions 📞 📅 Book Your Free Discovery Call Now: https://lnkd.in/guQPG3K7 call/ Share this message to help us raise awareness and provide better care for all! 🌟

Recently, we have been contacted by several medical providers who are tasked with supporting neurodivergent individuals and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) but don’t know where to start. This is a common challenge for organizations that are committed to providing high-quality care but lack formal training in these areas. The growing gap in appropriate medical services for disabled adults underscores the urgent need for specialized support and training to ensure these individuals receive the comprehensive care they deserve. Our training programs are designed to bridge that gap. We focus on equipping your team with the necessary skills and confidence to meet the unique needs of these populations. Unfortunately, ill equipped staff can often mean that individuals are not being adequate supported and often times are being subjective to restrictive interventions. This leads to less than optimal and sometimes worse outcomes for those being served. Let’s work together to elevate your team’s expertise and ensure that every individual receives the compassionate, informed care they deserve. https://lnkd.in/efQnAfeS #Synergybehaviorconsulting #professionaldevelopment #BCBA #SocialWorker #Inclusion #BehaviorConsultation #ABA #EmpowerYourTeam #Clientoutcomes #Compassionatecare #MentalHealth #MentalHealthtraining #TraumaInformed

February is National Heart Health Awareness Month. Take care of your heart! Individuals with developmental disabilities face distinct challenges in dealing with heart disease. Barriers such as limited healthcare access, communication difficulties, and cognitive impairments contribute to delayed detection. Maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle becomes challenging due to sensory issues, limited motor skills, and reliance on caregivers. Educating caregivers on specific needs is crucial. Tailored interventions and accessible information are essential, ensuring inclusive healthcare. A person-centered approach by healthcare providers, considering unique abilities and challenges, is vital for early detection, appropriate treatment, and overall well-being in managing heart disease in individuals with developmental disabilities. #SawInc #DDAwareness #SupportADD #Community #Inclusion #QualityOfLife #DSPsupport
