Organizing the first #SMAll #Wheelathon in Malaysia in 2017 to raise awareness for #SMA and disabilities on New Year’s Eve was a real eye-opener about #community, #authenticity, and #collaboration. #wecarejourney #smacare The event wasn’t about putting on a show; it was about genuinely fostering #inclusivity and understanding. Hosting hundreds of families with #disabilities showed us how crucial it is to create spaces where everyone feels valued. The joy and connection during the event proved that true community comes from #empathy and #meaningful engagement. We quickly learned that #authenticity was key. Staying true to our mission of raising #awareness and #advocating for real #change mattered way more than any superficial displays. Authenticity builds #trust and leaves a lasting impact, creating a legacy of support that goes beyond just one event. Pulling together diverse groups and individuals and the public meant having a #unifiedvision. #Sharedvalues and a common purpose were essential for effective teamwork. #Collaboration worked because everyone, from #volunteers to #sponsors, was on the same page about promoting #diversity and #inclusion. This collective commitment made the event a success and showed how unity can overcome challenges and create significant #societalimpact. These #lessons taught us that impactful events are all about genuine connections, staying true to your cause, and working together with a shared commitment. Green-Kenya is a sport-for-development organization that offers several programs, including 'Kick and Conserve.' Our objective is to teach young people how to reduce their carbon footprint through play. Twice a year, we gather the children we work with, engage them in games, educate them about environmental issues, and plant trees. We believe sports provide an excellent platform to instill values like sustainability and eco-consciousness. It teaches children teamwork and collaboration, encouraging them to work together on environmental projects such as community clean-ups and tree-planting initiatives. However, one challenge we face is the infrequency of running the program. We aim to run the program throughout the year. To overcome this challenge, we need to partner with government agencies to provide more seedlings and collaborate with other organizations that can teach children about their rights and enhance their environmental literacy. By extending the program duration and expanding our network, we will empower children with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the environment. #environmentalprotection #ecoawareness #seedthechange #ecoathletes
