**Co-op unveils ‘ambitious’ new sustainability targets** Co-op has unveiled “ambitious” new sustainability targets aligned to its credit facilities. The new targets include reducing carbon emissions across its supply chain, with the aim of having two thirds of suppliers enrolled in the Science Based Targets initiatives by the end of 2025, up from 37% currently. It will also target a 650 tonnes reduction in food waste per year, and will double the annual funding to Co-op Levy Share, investing thousands in apprenticeships. The goals align with its commitment to reach net zero status across all of its operations by 2035, and across its whole business by 2040. It follows The Co-op meeting its original greenhouse gas target early, ahead of its 2025 goal. Co-op CFO Rachel Izzard said: “These new targets reflect our commitment to the issues which matter most to our member-owners, including environmental stewardship and the reduction of carbon emissions and food waste across our business and supply chains.” Link to article in comments.

A great idea. In business and at a personal level, more education required to inform on how to adopt sustainability in all aspects of life. Most changes are quite simple.

🌊🌱 Introducing the Water Learning Hub at EcoJust! 🌱🌊 The Water Learning Hub is an inter- and trans-disciplinary space focusing on environmental and social justice issues about and around water – a core resource for sustainable development, but one that is in a state of peril today. The justice issues around water are complex, and this hub aims to bring together researchers, students and societal actors to promote learning and development in water sustainability research and practice. 🔍 What do we focus on? We focus on different kinds of issues of environmental and social justice about and around water across its various sectors of use and management, such as drinking water and sanitation, food, industry, energy, culture. 🌊 Why is our work crucial? Sustainable transitions can be possible when everyone has access to water in sufficient quantities and appropriate quality, and our ecosystems which produce and regulate water are also maintained in a healthy state. In order to reach these goals, it is essential that justice dilemmas about and around water are understood, analyzed and addressed appropriately. Major challenges to be addressed regard distributive justice (equitable access to clean and adequate water across sectors and communities, humans and nature); procedural justice (equitable participation and influence in water governance); recognitional justice (recognition of and inclusiveness regarding knowledge and practices).   🔄 Our Approach: This hub adopts the approach of developing more integrated insights and transformative actions for water-related sustainability. This is attempted through integrated transdisciplinary research, engaging in interactions with other researchers and societal partners in activities such as roundtables and workshops; and producing knowledge advancements in the form of books and research literature. 📆 Upcoming events in this hub: 1. Brainstorming Workshop in relation to an upcoming Book on ‘Water Justice’. This workshop will be organized as a part of the EcoJust Conference, November 18-19, 2024, inviting shortlisted contributing authors to discuss their chapters and recieve feedback. 2. A Book on ‘Water Justice’ aiming to advance knowledge around questions of justice explored through the ‘water lens’, across a range of sustainability issues, locations and contexts. This book attempts to bring together diverse paradigms and praxis around water-related social and ecological justice issues and is planned to be published as an Open Access Book. A written call for contributions to the book will be published separately.
