💭 I've had some interesting conversations with clients of late about inclusivity across varying peoples. About the challenges of striving for authenticity for people in organisations with differing beliefs, faiths or ideologies. Sometimes the challenge is geographical and global, sometimes it's local and political. ❓The big question being, how can we create inclusive spaces that don't exclude people with specific beliefs? 🎯 For me, inclusive spaces have to have room for ALL. The aim of the game is NOT to have everyone thinking the same way, sharing the same view of the world. Our shared goal, the ONE thing all employees in an inclusive space have to believe, is that we are ALL human. That as humans, we all deserve the right to be happy and to live authentic lives. 🧡 Beyond that, when creating your DEI strategy, you need to focus on how you get people to recognise the human on the other side of the table. What stories will be shared, what language will be used, what behaviours will be deemed appropriate. How will you require people to communicate, demonstrate respect and collaborate together. ☕ It's become an ever increasing focus in the work I do with my clients. My blog ‘Mutual Respect’ 12.4.2024 Mutual respect is the cornerstone of any healthy relationship, be it personal or professional. It's about valuing each other's opinions, boundaries, and differences without judgment. In a world where diversity is celebrated, mutual respect becomes even more crucial as it fosters understanding and empathy across various cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs. When individuals treat each other with respect, it creates an environment where everyone feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute their best, ultimately leading to stronger connections and more collaborative endeavors. So let's make mutual respect a guiding principle in our interactions, paving the way for a more inclusive and harmonious society. ~Ayub Siddiqui

"Whose safety are we prioritising here?" Invitation for us as facilitators to ask ourselves that question was one of my key takeaways from the session on 'Our role as facilitators in times of war, crises and genocide’ led by Marco Minoni, that I participated in yesterday. Plenty of food for thought from the: 💡Insights on multi-partiality and how possible is it to hold that position as a facilitator. 💡Considerations for the level or readiness of the group to having the conversation around the potentially polarising topics. 💡The strategies for holding spaces where conflict and division is present and a call for creating more opportunities for just listening. Thank you so much Marco for creating this space and skilfully facilitating it. I truly believe we need more of these type of exchanges. For someone who’s work centers around topics of (cultural) diversity & inclusion in multicultural environments the question of my role is very much present. Just finished "Foundations of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging" by Dereca Blackmon! Doing my part to understand better on DEI & Belonging. As Dereca highlighted “We are making changes not just individual, not just on a team, not even just in the organisation but changes that ripple out into the greater society”. DEI goes beyond just race or gender, and it’s a continuous learning journey that requires awareness and active participation to get everyone on board in building a better and inclusive society for everyone. Grateful to see DEI are included + observed in both my professional and personal life. At work currently in @UOB Malaysia, there have been active shift in incorporating inclusiveness at every level within organisation. On a personal level, I doing my little bit of tutoring underprivileged/refugee children while they are in KL. Had a bittersweet farewell recently with two siblings whom I tutored, and they left for a better future to the States. Hopefully it made a difference for them while they were here.
