Family planning counselling involves decisions on whether to have children, how many to have, the spacing between them, and contraception decisions to prevent pregnancy and HIV/AIDS. Despite the enormous benefits of family planning services, the utilization of the services still remains low in sub-Saharan Africa. Researchers have identified a number of factors that are related to unmet needs and nonuse of contraception. Higher levels of education among women are associated with higher levels of contraceptive use, smaller desired family size, and lower levels of unmet needs. Thanks to World Health Organization USAID Organisation Total Family Health Organisation for introducing the #COUNSELING FOR CHOICE TRAINING, and #Britelifeclinic for the opportunity. Clients are the experts on their own lives, and their needs and preferences should be the foundation of their healthcare decisions.  Evidence from #C4C programs has shown that women who receive FP counseling from a C4C trained provider feel more respected by their provider and believe that their preferences about contraception are taken seriously. We’ve also learned that C4C leads to a better quality of care experience for the client and improvements across multiple indicators of person-centered care. C4C was designed to improve the counseling experience and to better support clients to choose the method that is right for them. When clients are in control of their contraceptive decisions, they can choose methods that suit their lifestyle, leaving them satisfied with their choice and content to continue using their method for as long as they are in need. HIV-Exposed infants declared HIV-Free How is this even possible in Africa? It may seem to be impossible and the thought of our exposed infants declared positive after 18months has been an unending nightmare to most of us if not all I am here to tell you it is very possible to have our exposed infants declared HIV-Free as final outcome. Together we can unanimously declare HEI negative and an HIV-Free Africa as we engage in ⭐️ evidenced based practices in our various maternity units ⭐️ Support infected mothers to attain suppressed viral loads and practice exclusive breastfeeding/ formal feeding ⭐️ support exposed infants through their mothers get access to Prophylaxis ⭐️Encourage the use of PrEP in sero-discordant couples ⭐️ Seek preconception care prior to pregnancy ⭐️ Get ourselves tested at least twice a year and commence treatment if tested positive ⭐️ Avoid stigma and discrimination of infected persons ⭐️Teach our young children on sex and sexuality ⭐️ Empower our women to be self sustaining ⭐️Ignate laws that foster PMTCT practices These are just some of the actions we can take to attain this I believe you have more to add to this list.
