There are so many exciting apprenticeships available for new recruits and existing personnel within the Armed Forces. Working in Defence, you can develop skills for a successful career. AB Crookes is an apprentice Engineering Technician (Marine Engineering) (Submariner). This apprenticeship has allowed Crookes to gain practical, hands-on experience alongside theory learning. He says, “If anyone was thinking about doing an apprenticeship, then I would say ‘do it.’ There’s a massive push for people to go to university, but realistically you can go there for three or four years to study the theoretical side of engineering, but in that period, you might not have gained much practical experience of the role you’ll be going into”. #NAW2024 #SkillsForLife

From K-tech Apprentice to Receiving Controller ⭐ Meet Signe, a remarkable young talent at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Starting as a K-tech AS apprentice at 17, she's now a Receiving Controller, ensuring the quality of parts for F-35 aircraft and advanced defence systems. Her journey is a testament to dedication and hard work. "It's incredibly gratifying to receive this level of trust. It’s a significant responsibility. We need to inspect for any general damage, check the quality of paint and masking, ensure that parts are manufactured correctly, and most importantly, confirm that they meet our delivery standards,” Signe says. More than 104,000 people are now employed in the UK's booming aerospace industry which contributed over £30 billion to the economy last year. The figures are part of a wider report released by trade association ADS Group which reveals the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors added £38.2bn in value to the UK economy in 2023 - growth of 50% in the last 10 years. Employment across aerospace, defence, security and space is up almost a third (29%) on 2013 figures, with 427,500 people employed in the sectors. Of these roles, 23,000 are apprenticeships.

The Emerging Technology Apprenticeship Program is proud to participate in Day 5 of National Apprenticeship Week, with the theme being ‘Public Service Apprenticeship and Veterans in Apprenticeship.’ 19% of ETA applicants are military veterans. Veterans possess transferable skills and experiences gained during their military service, making them valuable candidates for employment with businesses and public entities in critical infrastructure sectors. Apprenticeships help veterans transition to civilian employment by providing upskilling in emerging technologies in areas where their current military skills align, such as with IT, logistics, or project planning. Boeing Aerostructures Australia, Australia's sole designer and manufacturer of advanced composite aerostructure components for commercial airplanes, is investing in apprenticeship programs to address skills shortages and changing demographics. Recognising the significance of on-the-job training, Managing Director and a former engineering cadet at Boeing Mick Sorrenson highlights the company's commitment to growing the talent pipeline, “If you're passionate about aerospace, it becomes all-encompassing and all of a sudden you realise you've been here for 35 years and not ever really thought about having to change because you love what you're doing.” The initiative includes a women in aerospace program aimed at increasing female representation in manufacturing. Boeing plans to expand its apprenticeship program to include 40 apprentices over the next four years, fostering diversity and creating a workforce that better reflects the community. Apprenticeships, especially ones linked to trade certifications or even STEM degrees, and leading to upward economic mobility have never been more beneficial to people and society than they are today. Great video by BAE communicating opportunity, diversity, and hope. What other companies are out there supporting talent development through training and education that should be applauded? Need more emphasis placed on talent development over talent management.

Sometimes we are fortunate enough to be able to look back on a momentous career event that happened 40 years ago (you really do need to be over 40 for this to happen and I hope you get there) Last Thursday, I was very fortunate to be able to reflect on such an event with 19 other ex-apprentices who shared that experience The last time we were all on that parade ground together was 11 April 1984, as we graduated from our 3-year RAF Halton apprenticeship as Aircraft Engineering Technicians (Airframes and Propulsion) An interesting and informative tour of Halton House took us back to Trenchard's vision and realisation of apprentices on the hill, and visits to Kermode Hall and the Trenchard Museum reminded us of the technical education and training we received (including meeting one of our instructors who is now a volunteer in the museum) The camaraderie and esprit de corps were instantaneous on being reunited and the humorous banter of events then and since had us laughing late into the night Of course, we remembered absent friends who were not so fortunate to have the opportunity to reflect with us What was absolutely clear, as we rekindled friendship and caught up on the intervening period, was that we had not been recruited as a 'type' nor converted into 'clones' yet we all shared very similar views on the 'ex-Brat' product Even though we had served differing times in different postings, and had gone on to have a widely varied range of subsequent careers and life experiences, there was the common theme of a foundation in integrity, accountability, technical competence, confidence, curiosity, quality focus and systems thinking that enabled us to achieve, both in and out of the Royal Air Force (RAF) There are no apprentices on the hill anymore and not everyone understands what has been lost ....... Rose-tinted spectacles? Probably A little pride? Definitely However, for what it is worth from an "old f4rt" who went through it, the RAF Halton Apprenticeship was a start to an engineering career that could not be replicated and has not been replaced intraresilience Limited - making #competence central to #leadership #quality and #customerservice

🎖️ Joining the Army doesn't mean just becoming a combat solider! 🎖️ "Kaine was not aware of the apprenticeship career path offered by the Army when he joined in 2019 but has now completed his Level Three Business Administrator Apprenticeship, which is the equivalent to two ‘A’ Levels." Meaning there are no limitations to what you can learn in the Army, and the skills learnt are transferrable to a civilian career.
