Be the person who breaks the chain of poverty in your family.

"Understanding Poverty, Reflecting God's Love" offers an insightful guide to equip church members and ministry leaders to understand and connect with those experiencing poverty. This event will help you better understand the unique facets of long-term poverty. It challenges us by growing our self-awareness of how our life experiences have fashioned both our definition of poverty and our understanding of those who are experiencing poverty. We will explore ways to help us engage with the people God puts in our path in a healthy, holistic way. What will be covered: Understanding: Explore the complex facets of long-term poverty and how our experiences shape our perspectives. Tools: Develop strategies for respectful, empowering engagement with the people God brings into your life. Effectiveness: Move your ministry or church towards more meaningful relationships with those experiencing poverty.

When Helping Hurts articulates a biblically based framework concerning the root causes of poverty and its alleviation. In the book we read the following about serving the materially poor in our communities: What is the underlying cause of poverty? It’s that the fall messed up the four foundational relationships that God established for mankind: relationship with God, with self, with others, and with the rest of creation. “If we treat only the symptoms or if we misdiagnose the underlying problem, we will not improve their situation, and we might actually make their lives worse.” At Daily Bread we train our Ministry Partners to recognize the broken relationships in the lives of those they serve through their food pantries. Each church or ministry that works with Daily Bread goes through a 6-week training to learn ways to engage with the materially poor in a way that restores relationships and lifts people out of poverty.
