"I think that the prototype AI company that everybody thinks about is the OpenAI or the big foundation model company. And it's true, I don't see much play for seed stage venture anyway in companies like that, that their first funding round might be a $100, $200 million to do something really capital intensive. Last week, I had the privilege of attending NY TECH WEEK by a16z, and it was nothing short of amazing! Featuring over 700 events in one week, record-breaking attendance, and a vibrant display of innovation across all sectors, the entire week was truly inspiring. AI was undoubtedly the star of the show, dominating conversations during fireside chats, meetups, and pitch competitions. Witnessing AI’s revolution across industries like fintech, construction, logistics, healthcare, and cybersecurity highlighted the transformative power of AI and its potential to reshape our future. The sheer number of attendees from Europe, LatAm, and all across the US added to the incredible discussions. From rooftop happy hours to workshops, it was a pleasure reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. It was also great to participate in conversations around corporate innovation and venture building in enterprise environments. Corporate venture building is crucial, as corporates can drive meaningful innovation by leveraging their resources and networks to accelerate the development of groundbreaking technologies and solutions, creating significant value for themselves and the entire ecosystem. This is a big part of the work we do at Motiv, and these were some of my favorite conversations with corporate venture builders. As Motiv’s ventures continue to take us to new places, we are grateful for the opportunity to grow our community and collaborate with incredible founders, corporates, and the investor community. Wrapping up my first week as a Headstarter AI SWE Fellow, I had the opportunity to attend the Pathways to Tech event where industry leaders shared invaluable insights. Here are my key takeaways: 🔍 Ask quality questions: Great questions leave a lasting impression. Remember, people may not remember you, but they will remember your great questions. 🗣️ Effective communication: Clear communication is a powerful skill. It's essential to clearly convey your ideas to your team and potential clients, as emphasized by Dustin Beadle. 🎯 Identify pain points: User retention hinges on solving their specific pain points, a key insight highlighted by in the event. 🔄 Adaptability: Shariar Kabir's journey from medicine to computer science reveals the importance of adaptability and continuous learning, showcasing the value of keeping an open mind to new areas of curiosity. 🌟 Diverse skill set: Continuous learning and a diverse skill set were underscored by Miguel Acero as essential for professional growth. 💼 Soft skills matter: Communication and community involvement are crucial for building relationships, fostering teamwork, and creating a positive work environment alongside technical skills. 💪 Resilience: Nabeel Alamgir🦄's story of overcoming rejection emphasizes the importance of resilience and staying strong in the face of challenges. 📊 Customer feedback: Actively seek and incorporate customer feedback for improvement early and often. What's In It For Me?- That's the question that spurs almost all human action. Given I am writing this post to motivate you, the reader, to participate in this hackathon below, I am going to try and answer this question for you. If you fall in any of the following groups, the hackathon is for you. Below a distilled articulation for "What's In It For Me?" (WIIFM). · I am a professional hackathoner: WIIFM- The prize money, what else? 🙂 (oh, and the recognition!) · I am thinking of quitting my job to start-up but am not sure of the idea: WIIFM- There's no way you have not thought of Gen AI, right? Some feedback before you jump onto (or not) the bandwagon will not hurt. · I am thinking of quitting my job to start-up and I know I am building in AI: WIIFM- Come get some feedback, and perhaps some funding if there is meeting of the minds. · I love my job. In fact, I love any job and won't be a founder ever: WIIFM- The sound of Ka-ching on the side can only be music to your ears, right? We are not looking for the winner of the hackathon to quit their jobs and change the course of human history by building a game-changing company. Come have some fun. · I am already working on an idea in AI: WIIFM- This is the quickest way to measure yourself against what and how others are building. Plus some feedback and (in)validation from us, for what it's worth. In short, I am hard pressed to think of who you have to be to not find some value in participating in the hackathon. While we have a portfolio of AI cos. spanning voice, ecom workflow automation, photo editing automation, natural language chatbots for conversion and support, we are always looking to meet more talent building in or flirting with AI. (In case you were wondering the 'WIIFM for me'.) 

Why Invest in Deeptech? Unlike traditional tech ventures focused on end-user products, Deeptech startups aim to solve some of the most pressing global challenges, such as climate change, healthcare advancements, and resource scarcity. One of the defining characteristics of Deeptech is its demand for significant investment. These startups require up to five times more capital than typical tech ventures due to their extensive R&D processes and longer development cycles. This is a high-risk, high-reward scenario: the median pre-money valuation for Deeptech firms is 25-50% higher than their non-Deeptech counterparts, as noted by sources like BCG and Hello Tomorrow. This valuation reflects the potential impact and disruption that Deeptech innovations can bring to industries. In 2023, Deeptech startups raised approximately $10 billion, which highlights a growing investor interest in fields such as AI, biotechnology, and quantum computing. These areas are not just creating new markets but are also redefining how existing industries operate.
