🔥 The #ParkFire now CA’s 5th largest wildfire on record 🔥 This record is sobering but doesn’t capture the enormous amount of hardwork by the over 5,500 firefighters and first responders on the frontlines. #5 doesn’t count the structures destroyed and those saved. It doesn’t capture the human and environmental impacts by the fire. Measuring the size of a wildfire is important, but there is so much to the story. Our Public Information/Communications Team works hard to get all those numbers out as quickly as possible. The latest stats can be found at www.fire.ca.gov Be sure you’re prepared for wildfire by visiting our website: www.ReadyForWildfire.org #CALFIRE Joe Tyler Anale Burlew Nick Schuler, CFO, PIO Christine McMorrow

If it was a forest fire, these planes couldn't have flown very low over the fire to drop water or fire-retardant. These are lower-intensity grass fires and still hard to control. Water-bomber and fire-retardant operations are costly with little impact. The only real chance to extinguish these fires will be a change of wind direction or heavy rain/snowfalls. Further, fire-retardant is a carcinogen that penetrates groundwater or is carried by rainwater runoffs into creeks and rivers, impacting marine life and human health. Its overuse will have a lasting ecological impact. Even after these Texas wildfires are over, their impact will linger for years https://lnkd.in/gwJUqgri. The Panhandle of Texas is home to 28% of U.S. meat production. Already, tens of thousands of cattle are dead, and many more are injured and have to be put down. Then, 80% of the grassland feeding the cattle industry is burned to ash (no more feedstock) for the remaining cattle. Therefore, North Americans will see higher meat prices, and it will take decades for the Panhandle, Texas, to fully recover from this mid-winter wildfire. But then, we are heading to the hot summer fire season and the State of Texas is prone to summer wildfires. Thus, the Texas wildfire story in 2024, just began. Considering the costly and recurring annual wildfires with far-reaching impacts on humans and the environment (https://lnkd.in/gpEHP9QR), it is high time we seek new effective fire suppression technologies. https://lnkd.in/gSqWn3Gv
