In a Harvard Business MBA study, graduating students were asked if they had written goals and plans for their future achievements. Astonishingly, 84% had no goals, 13% had goals but no concrete plans, and only 3% had both written goals and detailed plans. Over the next decade, the 13% with goals earned twice as much as those without, while the 3% with goals and plans earned ten times as much as the rest. Why try to redesign the MBA, when there are programs(not MBAs) that already offer the skills needed for the future like: design thinking, systems thinking, complexity thinking, improvisation and experimentation, polarity thinking, lateral thinking, and both-and thinking, just to name a few!!!. Sadly, generally speaking, most of these programs have remained a very small minority in higher ed and are dwarfed by MBAs. Worse, they have dwindled in numbers as their home institutions do not know what to do with them in terms of marketing as they do not fit the traditional education paradigm.

And it’s finally here!… Most people think MBAs are overrated these days , however it isn’t only about what you learn during the journey, it’s about the full experience. This is what my MBA taught me : - Resilience , it is the huge effort you make to spend late nights after you have had a full plate at work , when you have to stay home on a weekend (or several) or when you have to be away from the family because you need to put your brain at work. - the importance of relationships, sharing thejourney with people from multiple countries and backgrounds have certainly changed my way of thinking and approaching problems and solutions - The importance of experience, there is nothing more enriching than embracing failure (yes nobody likes to fail, but when you fail it means you tried and learned= experience) which makes you stronger and wiser! And of course none of this would have been possible without the unconditional support from my family. Specially my wife Cristina de Gregorio Esteban who is always there for us and encouraging me to keep pushing. “Never go with the flow , be the flow! Successfully finished my fourth quarter at the Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business, and I can happily say I'm only six months away from completing my MBA! I wanted to summarize my experience/what I learned in one to two sentences for each class I took. Ethics For Managers: Very interesting to take an ethics course outside of a biomedical scope. Sustainability is something which all corporations need to do better at. Leadership of Dynamic Organizations: The perspectives and thought processes of each leader is unique, I wonder what my future experiences will be. Business Analytics: A great foundation for linear regression, logistic regression, k nearest numbers, ect.. excited to expand on these skills! Managerial Economics: Monopolies are bad but inevitable especially in this day and age with technology giants. Interested to see how the United States government will handle the increasing power that these tech companies will have. Fantastic classes taught by Deirdre Frontczak, Fiona Xiaoying Ji, Andy Tsay, Sofia Kotsiri :) Looking forward to next quarter, but will definitely be enjoying this holiday break! #mba #management #scu #santaclara #gobroncos
