NEWS RELEASE: Ottawa, January 31, 2024—CanREA’s new annual industry data report shows that Canada’s installed capacity grew by 11.2% in 2023—we now have 21.9 GW of wind energy, solar energy and energy storage!
Looking ahead, there are tremendous opportunities for growth in these industries as the nation works to meet 2035 and 2050 net-zero targets.
“Canada’s wind, solar and energy storage industry had a relatively good year in 2023, but progress fell short of the trajectory needed to meet net-zero targets. Canada has massive, untapped wind and solar resources that can be harnessed to provide the affordable, clean electricity needed in all jurisdictions. We need to increase the pace of buildout, and we need to see deployment in all provinces and territories. What is needed is more geographic diversity,” said Vittoria Bellissimo, CanREA’s President and CEO
