Positive Solutions recently assisted the City of Casey in determining the most appropriate charitable vehicle for Bunjil Place, conducting benchmarking research, evaluation, and analysis to support fundraising efforts. During the project we connected with the Productivity Commission team, regarding the Commission's draft report, 'Future Foundations For Giving.' This report underscores philanthropy's significant role in Australia, with contributions exceeding $13 billion and extensive volunteer engagement. Key recommendations include simplifying the deductible gift recipient (DGR) system to enhance fairness and donor choice, reforming charity regulations via the ACNC for transparency and public trust, and proposing an independent foundation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These reforms aim to maximise philanthropy's societal benefits and streamline support for charitable endeavors nationwide. Great to see this out and where the Place Programme is headed in Phase 2! The work we do at the AHRC Place Programme responds to the high priority of ‘place’ within the UK and global policy landscapes, and the cross-sectoral initiatives focused on placemaking and redistributing resources to places most in need. Our work Phase One of the AHRC Place Programme (2021-2023) culminated in a report which argued for a people-centred, place-led approach that holds the lived, felt, geographic and economic dimensions of place together to ensure that policies and practices are developed in equitable partnerships with communities and professionals.   Phase Two of the programme runs until 2027 and a key objective is to test how the people-centred, place-led principles set out in the report can be embedded through organisational systems and policy at different scales, sectors, and governments in all four nations of the United Kingdom. The Legacy of Tun Tavern, Part II - Taverns served a vital role in the creation of the new American Republic. Researcher Baylen J. Linneken noted that taverns were “vital centers where colonists of reputations great and small gathered to read printed tracts, speak with each other on important issues of the day, debate the news, organize boycotts, draft treatises and demands, plot expulsion of their British overlords, and establish a new nation.” (Source: 2012, Baylen J. Some argue that the right to assemble, codified in the First Amendment to the Constitution, was born out of colonial American taverns.   - Colonial taverns of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were typically operated out of dwelling houses, which served multiple purposes. For this reason, tavern architecture did not conform to one particular style, but rather drew on vernacular architectural forms, and taverns were visually similar to other domestic and commercial buildings. Sandoval-Strausz, A Public House for a New Republic: The Architecture of Accommodation and the American State, 1789-1809. Perspectives in Vernacular Architecture 9:54-70).   - Built as one of the earliest taverns in Philadelphia, the Tun Tavern was likely expanded in the early eighteenth century. Thereafter, several social groups began to meet there, including the first Masonic group in Pennsylvania and three groups that assisted people moving to the colony from Europe – the St. George’s, St. Patrick’s, and St. Andrew’s societies. These are just a few of the details shared in the report. “The new historical study offers fresh insights that will inform efforts to preserve and interpret the Tun Tavern’s legacy,” said Pat Dailey, president and founder of the Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation. “By analyzing the tavern’s architectural features and comparing them to other colonial-era structures, the report provides recommendations for how a historically accurate reconstruction might look.” As the Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation shares details from this comprehensive study, it hopes to spark interest in rediscovering and celebrating this historic institution’s history. How can we challenge ourselves to explore alternatives for how we live, love, own our things, choose our families and raise our children? Social dreaming is something I love to do I especially in summer🌞 by reading utopian stories or novels. Such as this book: Everyday Utopia by Kristen Ghodsee (thanks to Upstream https://lnkd.in/eBBnxxma for bringing this to my attention). For this Community Clean-Up our volunteers will be meeting up at and cleaning Los Altos Park, located at 10100 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112 (Meet-Up will be in the parking lot off Eubank next to Sonic) Youth participation is strongly encouraged, so children are welcome to join! NO OPEN-TOED SHOES Cleaning up loose trash is one of the best ways to pitch in for your community and the environment. Volunteering as a means to help conserve and protect the environment has a lot of upsides. Of course, the first is that you’ll be taking care of our planet, and it badly needs a little love given the myriad ways in which we’ve become adept at destroying it. But beyond that, volunteering for a cause you care about is a great way to meet like-minded people, make friends, and pull yourself out of the blues that sometimes accompany caring a lot about something important – especially if you feel alone in your endeavors. None of us like the sight of litter. Litter spoils the look of where we live but that’s not the only reason for picking up litter. There are a number of benefits from picking up litter that you may not have considered before. Volunteer-led projects such as these are one of the quickest, simplest, and least expensive ways to inspire more community spirit and civic action. A visually appealing community increases property values, attracts businesses, and improves the neighborhood's image. Beauty is one of the three most influential factors in community attachment, which means loyalty, to your particular town or city.
