It seems that the Army was slow rolling a vehicle active protection system (over a decade ago) that was being developed. World events - conflicts - have changed with the use of fairly inexpensive technology to destroy various targets, so there now is an urgent need for protection from threats above. I'm certain DOD have a strict protocol which commanders utilize for engaging Targets and threats. It's the same SOP governing every USN and indeed every 🇺🇸 platform.deployed anywhere. Generally Commanders are required and Suthorized( Weapons Release Authority)to defend themselved as their forces from any and every attack as they Wander the borders of the Earth on.our behalf. It can't be any other way in a world where acquisition of an incoming and impact is measured sometimes in Seconds . Reprisal attacks are a different story and are typically proportional yet more scope following repeated incidents. All the jihadist including Hamas are on a mission to attempt to push 🇺🇸 into a on going battle . Being in Harms Way is what these machines and personnel are made and trained to respond effectively and appropriately .
