💡Evolution of UX Research💡 The recent #techlayoff has created a tidal wave for many UX Researchers and UX Designers on job dismissal. Also, many companies, especially in my own country, usually start hiring UX Researcher, mostly in junior position to support the existing product design team. There is a limited impact that the junior UX Researcher can lead or influence the product team, not to mention at larger organisational level. There have also been some heated discussion 👄 and debate 🗣 among UX Community whether the domain UX Research is whitering, or better to re-position its value to an organisation for senior leadership buy-in. Peter Merholze wrote an article about how we shall include UX Research, Market Research, Analytics and Data, and Customer/Care Support as one Holistic Insights. This implies that UX Research will no longer be attached to UX or Product Design, or under the UX Design team. https://lnkd.in/gjbrY7Gt Here I recommend to have an independent "Insights and Strategy" team, you can name it differently in your organisation. Many #Research and #UX folks are picking up on the unfairness of the job market in tech: the number of UX jobs vs. developer or product manager jobs remains dismally low. I believe that the reason for the marginalization of these specialists is that user centricity remains a veneer, at least at many places. Modern tech remains not user-focused and not even business-focused, but building-focused. Some examples of this are: ⏳ feature parity (i.e., copy-pasting features the competition has and we don’t), ⏳ we-build-it-and-they-will-come mentality ⏳ founders’/CEO/CPO/you-name-it vision. The problem is not that Research (**here I mean good research as business-relevant insights, not a pile of data**)  is unable to act as a partner to business, but that there is often no genuine interest in identifying what will move the needle the most, for the user and for the business. I believe that in difficult times businesses should be doubling down on strong analysts and researchers – not vice versa. #layoffs #jobmarket #ux #research #tech #impact

The Qualitative Research "Impact Problem:" The current climate in Big Tech is still responding to several factors: The AI explosion, Layoffs in 2023 due to over-hiring during COVID, and a general tightening of budgets, despite record profits. Qualitative Researchers feel we have been hit especially hard with layoffs and coming to terms with a new challenge: How do we demonstrate our Value and "Prove" our Impact to the Business?
