Once I grasped this concept, it was transformative. Adopting the mindset that everything happens for a reason—that things don't happen TO you but FOR you—opened up a new way of seeing life. It instilled in me a deep, soul-level trust that God is with us here. Backstory: When I was 10, I faced an immense tragedy when my dad was fatally injured in a construction accident involving a crane. This was a seismic shift for my family and me. In the absence of my father, I had to mature swiftly. As the eldest sibling and the only male in the house, the responsibility to lead fell on my shoulders. This accelerated my growth, pushing me to work diligently and live responsibly from a young age. Today, as a project manager for Metropolitan Steel, one of my key responsibilities is assisting in developing engineered crane procedures—a role that holds not just operational importance but a deeply personal significance. Every day, I'm driven by a mission to ensure the safety of workers like my father, who put their lives on the line to provide for their families. I am profoundly grateful for every twist and turn in my life—every challenge leads to growth! My hope for each of you is that you can cultivate a similar sense of gratitude and resilience. There’s a reason he’s still The Boss: unwavering energy after half a century in the game, demanding and getting excellence from every member of his team, The E Street Band. Springsteen's adaptability in masterfully blending decades of hits while keeping each performance fresh is a  lesson in innovation. And then there’s the bond with his audience, making everyone feel seen and valued. There’s lessons for the construction and property sector in this approach: Constant innovation and progression. The tightest-knit teams, lead from the front. Understanding clients to meet real needs, not just tick boxes. Time to take some notes from the Boss.

I was sitting in a helicopter spinning downward toward the Lake of the Ozarks.  All I remember thinking in that moment was how my death would affect my family. I was 13 then but still think about that crash routinely. If I asked why you show up to work every day, you'd be able to give me a list, right: - to have a nice home, - to support your children, - to pay the bills, - to earn a promotion. But if I asked you why we will make it home in the same condition we arrived at work in, the answer would be harder to come up with, right? Rates of injury and illness are 24% higher in construction than in any other industry. Hoffmann Brothers is always creating a culture where safety is the highest priority. We want to be part of the solution for seeing that injury rate decrease in the coming years. Building that culture is about implementing processes and accountability to make sure our people get home in the same condition they showed up to work in. That's just the right way to do business, isn't it?

The recent incident in San Mateo is a sobering reminder of the importance of preparation and proper safety protocols in construction. While this doesn't apply to every accident, this situation highlights something that can be extremely common on construction sites: Prioritizing speed over everything else. Deadlines are important, but team members' health and well-being are equally important and contribute to our ability to reach deadlines promptly. I swapped my heels👠 for boots 🥾and spent time onsite this week. The humidity was high, and drilling work was underway. The dedication of the electrical crew was evident—drenched shirts and dirt-covered faces. The insights gained from a few hours in the field far surpass days in the office. In this industry, I firmly believe: • You must see the work firsthand. • Be with the people who do the work. • Put on your hard hat, ask questions, and LISTEN. • Show empathy to demonstrate you care. • Work on practical solutions. • Recognize safe conditions. • Discuss areas for improvement. Having meaningful conversations about the work and, more importantly, about the workers as people is crucial. Ultimately, the construction industry is a people business. Spending just a few hours with the crew allowed me to return to the office with actionable insights.
