The one thing that separates rugby from other sports - 🏉. Total respect and discipline towards the refs - it has been our backbone…. well certainly used to be! This clip is great to see but IMO sadly respect for refs is slowly eroding from our great game week to week and too often is allowing for questioning of the ref at all stages of their match ( on and off field) especially in key decisions! Victim culture - everyone’s hard done by if it doesn’t go their way - right or wrong ( human ) refs decisions are final - as frustrating as that might be! Errors occur sometimes in your favour, sometimes it goes against you. Get over it and play on! “Managing The Ref” in a professional environment has become the norm! Many very well know top players have contributed significantly to this. And should have been corrected on their behaviour! The resultant affect? - So much so now on social media much of the public thinks that’s refs are open season to be continously questioned, attacked, abused. Players are seen to be allowed to discuss, disagree and often argue with officials week after week - so why shouldn’t fans, other level players and kids & parents watching and playing do anything different?? @worldrugby if you don’t take a very hard line soon - direct, educate why, but ultimately act to stamp out the constant diatribe and victim culture that is creeping into the game - and insist on TOTAL respect for officials ( whatever the decision ( right, wrong or indifferent l) rugby will cease to have their one advantage over other sports 🏉! Once gone you will never recover it, and neither will the sport!

Football is a game for gentleman’s played by hooligans. Rugby is a game for hooligans played by gents. 🏉

Football has much to learn from this 🤔

It's also a wider reflection on society, I go to the local gym and watch the PTI's rerack weights folk can't be bothered to rack themselves. In the Navy as with the Ref, PTI's were respected and you did as you were told. So respect the Refs decision and stow your own weights.

Footballers could learn a thing or twenty from this game......it would stop the officials harassment which is embarrassing and or the verge of hooliganism IMO. Plus if the football community adopted some of the checking procedures and not that VAR nonsense then we might have a decent game again instead of all the cheating which goes on in every game.....sportsmanship doesn't win trophies anymore.....

Rugby has been at the forefront of reffing for years, not that they always get it right, and it is being put under strain in the modern game, but more so due to rules changes which make it difficult. (Head contact / tackling is one) but the culture on the pitch, values maintained and most importantly the ref leading them consistently, is so key. Often refs in rugby have played the game, sometimes professionally, something Football could really learn from.

A life lesson from when I first played for the Scunthorpe Heslam Park teams, school, college and squadrons in the RAF - respect and manners cost nothing. Sadly this is something lacking in many walks of society now. Be responsible and accountable for your actions/inaction! 🏉 a game of mutual respect amongst teams, players and officials, a lot could be learnt in other sports and day to day activites.

When criticizing a referee consider this situation. Can you correctly determine what all 30 players are doing while running at pace? How do you react to criticism of your decisions while breathless, after 40 or 75 minutes of strenuous exercise? How would you respond to a call which you knew you got wrong? If you love the game, take up a whistle and jump in the center. You will be highly surprised with the experience. We need more rugby referees and less criticism. Would you suggest your kids become referees while they still play the game? (Hint, refereeing allows players to see the whole game, not just their position.) The other great aspect of rugby is the post-game meal/comradery. Many sides have shown me much grace during the post-game meal. I thank each one, and hope to have similar future opportunities.

Societies seem to have forgotten that a little respect goes a long way. You don't have to agree with them but respecting that they have a right to an opinion matters.

For a second their I thought why does a premier footballer have a scrum hat on! Then reality hit me , oh that’s right they wouldn’t as it would mess their hair up and probably smudge the face powder around their cherub cheeks. Not to mention and more importantly, they they probably can’t spell respect which is why they have it emblazand on their kit. Believe it or not I do love football also but Rugby will and unfortunately will continue to be be a blood sport for and of gentlemen.
