Clinical Application Specialist (In Vitro Diagnostics) at Mindray | Senior Medical Technician and former Heamatology Lead | Internal Laboratory Auditor ISO 15189:2022 | 13+ Years in Clinical Laboratory Pathology.
Personal annual skill audits are a must! Lab work can get really mundane, as a result focus on skills that are both transferable and quantifiable, oftentimes, these are the skills that separates you from the next Technologist/Scientist/Technician. Some of the skills includes but not limited to : EQA and IQC monitoring, evaluation and interpretation. Internal and external audit participation. Focus on becoming Super users of analysers/instruments. Application specialist and engineers enjoy working with these Techs for various reasons. Keep record of these skills. Update and incorporate into you curriculum Vitae. What other value based skills would you add to set you apart in the lab? #MedicalTechnology #MedicalScience #ClinicalPathology #Haematology #Biochemistry #Microbiology

Communication When I initially started my medical technologist career, my first job was in the microbiology department. I remember being on the urine bench, having to read stacks and stacks of agar plates that were taller than me. Even though it started of as a challenge, it taught me so much more than just identifying pathogens in urine. I had to learn how to communicate effectively, how to structure my workflow and even though it was the same process, the same agar plates, the same microorganisms being identified, working with different people to make the process work was important. People make processes work. You could tell when there was no communication or teamwork because at the end of the day when the plates had to be stacked and put back into the incubator, there would be pick offs missing and this meant having to go back and do additional work and it resulted in a lack of confidence and trust. Communication is important, it brings clarity, provides structure and everyone works towards the same goal. When you are a member of a team, communication is a two way street. We listen and we speak. There's no "your way or the highway scenario". When there is clear communication, there are no assumptions. When you ASSUME, you make an ASS(of)U(&)ME. Gerrit? lol.

🌏 💡 My first weeks in Cruda have been all about connecting the dots between circular economy, sustainable industrial solutions and our technology as part of a Net Zero solution. Truly exciting stuff, and so much fun to learn from some of the best in the industry (including our own Johnny Kristoffersen). 🌱⌛ So far, the shift from LifeSci to green industry is pretty much as expected. F.ex: The structured approach to R&D required to solve complex challenges is quite similar. Yet, products that will ultimately end up in a melting furnace instead of the human body are (unsurprisingly) not restricted by the same heavy regulatory requirements. The testing cycles are quicker and easier, and that speed is a welcome change from my side. More importantly: Net Zero will not wait, so speed is of the essence. 🔎👨🏭 We have our work cut out for us at CRUDA, and are now strengthening our team with two new hires for our newly established lab in Fredrikstad. Join us on our journey! Or perhaps you know someone that could be interested?
