If you are a gamer who loves snacking on Doritos, you know the struggle of muting your microphone every time you take a bite. The crunching sound can be annoying for your teammates and opponents, and can also distract you from the game. But what if you could enjoy your Doritos without making any noise?
That’s the idea behind the Doritos Silent campaign, a brilliant example of using AI in marketing campaigns. Doritos created a free software that uses AI to filter out the crunching sounds from your microphone, so you can snack and chat at the same time. The software was developed in collaboration with Smooth Technology, a leader in electronic and interactive design, and involved the analysis of over 5,000 different crunch sounds.
The campaign also used social media and out-of-home advertisements to tease the concept of “making Doritos silent” with images of Doritos chips in place of noise-canceling headphones. The campaign generated a lot of curiosity and excitement among the gaming community, as well as the media and the public.
The Doritos Silent campaign shows how Doritos understands the needs and preferences of its target audience, and how it leverages AI technology to create a unique and innovative solution that solves a real problem for gamers. The campaign also demonstrates how Doritos enhances the customer experience and satisfaction, as well as the brand image and reputation. The campaign aligns with Doritos’ brand personality, which is bold, fun, and adventurous.

I share today this news that has caught my attention and made me think about how far innovation and creativity can go and not precisely for the good of society but due to the “discomfort” of some people. Let´s go to the point.
As I have read in The Hustle, looks like #gamers have very sensitive ears because gaming and eating crunchy snacks at the same time has a very annoying sound and they got distracted from the game.
#PepsiCo, which is the owner of the brand #Doritos (the snack chosen consistently by 85% of the gamers), aware of this annoying issue, has released “Doritos Silent”, a free “crunch cancellation” software developed using Artificial Intelligence #AI to analyze more than 5000 different crunching sounds.
This new product has been described as “the world´s first AI-augmented snack”.

Gaming is a massive industry (more than 3 billion active gamers globally / 65% of Americans play video games for at least one hour a week / 2022 revenue worldwide was more than 300 billion USD) and it is linked to snacking very tied, so brands and producers are identifying solutions for gamers to be able to combine snacking and gaming.
