📢NEWS: Scientists are now able to predict response to radium-223 in #ProstateCancer bone metastases, which could lead to improvements in survival and quality of life. Radium-223 is a treatment that has been used for prostate cancer bone metastases for more than a decade, but, until recently, there has been no reliable way to assess or predict response. Researchers at the ICR and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust have shown that patients respond differently to radium-223, and have demonstrated that by using a novel imaging technique, it is possible to predict which patients are likely to benefit from the treatment. Treatment response in bone metastases is challenging to measure because, unlike with tumours or malignant lymph nodes, there is no visible shrinkage if the treatment works. This work could allow clinicians to ensure that they are only using radium-223 for people who have a good chance of responding to it. Other patients could be given an alternative treatment that may work better for them. Being able to better target treatment to the individual in this way could lead to improvements in survival and quality of life. Highlights the effectiveness of Natera's Signatera assay in detecting cancer recurrence significantly earlier than standard imaging methods. Signatera can identify microscopic traces of cancer in the blood, enabling timely interventions and improving patient outcomes, as demonstrated in a real-life case of metastatic melanoma where early detection led to a successful adjustment in treatment. https://lnkd.in/dHhG63H7
