Incurable. We cannot { yet } prevent breast cancer. Even catching it at stage 0 has this recurrence risk.In order to truly save women’s lives we need to do better. We need to fund metastatic research. When I was first diagnosed with stage iv or metastatic breast cancer, I learned that only about 3% of ALL breast cancer research funding is dedicated to it. When someone you love dies from breast cancer- this is what they died from. No matter if they were originally diagnosed at stage 0, 1, 2, 3 or like me stage iv- the only time someone dies from it is when it leaves the original tumor site in the breast and metastasizes or starts growing somewhere else; liver, lungs, bones or brain. The cruel reality is that even if you are deemed disease free or "cured" you still have a recurrence risk of about 30%. This is why funding stage iv research is so important- it effects every single women, or man, diagnosed with breast cancer. Every single one. A super easy way to do this? New GOAL for myself: actually post the photos I take! I have had incredible opportunities in my new role with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA Every 4 years TRB Low Volume roads conference is held. In July, I had the opportunity to share what our DOT rural group is working on,network, and see friends! I was delighted to see founding members and developers of Northest MN Toward Zero Deaths dream team Beltrami County engineer @brucehasbargen and former @kittsoncounty engineer and current Bridge and Pavenment engineer North Dakota State University Kelly Bengtson. I often say I am a Jill of all traffic safety! It was fun to put back on a high viz vest and go on a field trip! I was proud to hear MnDOT Research & Innovation has already implemented so many of these safety improvements. I was raised on a potato and grain farm, my dad became home bound 9 years ago. Daily, I take a photo of the outside to send to my dad! He loved seeing the crops and that the corn was taller than me! My bedroom window growing up looked at over 40 acres of sunflowers🌻 Finall , everywhere I carry my bag by Jacquelyn Vranicar which 100% proceeds go to metavivor to support research for stage 4 breast cancer.
