Collaboratively Strengthening Health and Well-Being - Celebrating the pivotal contributions of Community Health Workers (CHWs), today's emphasis is on their exceptional commitment to advancing food security and cultivating more vibrant communities. CHWs emerge as indispensable catalysts for change, ensuring that access to nourishment is justly distributed throughout the community. Their tireless efforts resonate profoundly as they address fundamental societal requirements. By deftly addressing social determinants of health, CHWs play a critical role in building the capacity for individuals to attain holistic well-being. Collaborating with peers across diverse sectors, CHWs seamlessly integrate the diverse needs of individuals. CHWs actively participate in advocacy, support groups, educational initiatives, mental health services, housing projects, workforce development, and organizations centered around immigration and voting rights. A general election has been announced for the 4th July but how can a new Government boost the nation’s health, address food poverty and reshape our food system? Our new report shows the power of Fruit & Veg on Prescription for people on low incomes living with food-related ill health. Working with GPs and social prescribers at the Bromley by Bow Centre in Tower Hamlets and community health practitioners at the AT Beacon Project in Lambeth, almost 200 people have been prescribed Rose Vouchers to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables in their local communities. The results speak for themselves: 🍏 80% of participants now eat five-a-day. 📈 9 in 10 experience improved health and wellbeing. 🫀 7 in 10 saw improvements in blood pressure. 👩⚕️ 40% reduction in GP visits. 💷 £222k invested in the local economy We need to reorientate the food system to make the healthy option the easy option. This collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary #approach is a global effort and is intended to help you achieve the best health possible. One Health focuses on building awareness of #zoonoticdiseases – when animals infect humans – and how they are spread. Common issues #onehealth focuses on include: #antimicrobialresistance #foodsafety #foodsecurity #Vectorbornediseases #Environmentalcontamination And more How Can I Get Involved in Building One Health Month Awareness? Part of One Health Month is highlighting #OneHealth on social media. You can do your part to raise #awareness by connecting with media outlets, friends, family, coworkers, and lawmakers. Another way to reach out is by participating in the January 2024 One Health Awareness Social Media Campaign. Use the hashtag #OneHealth and comment and share other’s posts. You can even do an educational presentation about One Health issues at your local library, school, park, business, church, or other institution near you.
