We’re excited to announce the launch of Young Investor Week, a national initiative by Ultra Education CIC and Diverse Leaders Network, designed to equip the next generation with the entrepreneurial, leadership, and financial skills needed for the future. This initiative builds on the success of our previous events, Brighter Futures: Young Investor for the Day, held in Canary Wharf, London, and Liverpool. Through Brighter Futures, we've prepared 40 young people to work alongside seasoned investors, assessing the pitches of 20 entrepreneurs seeking funding. What can we learn from young entrepreneurs? To kick off Global Entrepreneurship Week, our Global Strategy Director, Will Worsdell FRSA reflects on his time supporting high school students whilst volunteering with Young Enterprise UK as the charity celebrates its 60th anniversary. Here are the five things he's learned from working with the next generation of creative entrepreneurs... 1. The unbridled creativity of young people. Before you've been conditioned to groupthink there's an incredible freedom of thought to business challenges. 2. A desire to make progress FAST. Growing up seeing 23 year old billionaires and seemingly overnight successes has created an atmosphere of urgency and a sense that great success is possible very quickly. 3. An openness to vulnerability. A culture of honesty, transparency and vulnerability is key for business success. I think it's fair to say that it doesn't always come naturally to the older generations in work, but for the youngest it's very natural. This changes the workplace dynamic. 4. A focus on immediacy. There is less of a desire for consistent linear careers and more of an acceptance, and attraction, of squiggly tangential careers that focus on the present desire state. Which I think is very exciting. 5. A genuine desire for learning. The availability of experts and insight across podcasts, social media, and even AI is second nature to this generation and it creates a constant state of self-development. 🚨💰OPPORTUNITY ALERT ‼️ New Jersey Innovation Fellows Program . The Innovation Fellows program supports entrepreneurs with unique startup ideas with access to mentorship and “income replacement” grants. This resource creates an opportunity for the entrepreneurs to pursue unique startup business ventures with the security of initial income replacement funding and guidance during the two-year ideation and formation period of their businesses. Per program policy and in accordance with the legislation, approved teams will be qualified to receive $200,000 as a base award, and up to $200,000 in bonuses (resulting in a total $400,000 award). Bonuses include $50,000 if any one of the entrepreneurs in a team resides in an Opportunity Zone within the State. An additional $50,000 bonus is awarded for each Entrepreneur leader on the Fellows team with a diversity self-certification or education bonus up to $150,000, resulting in a total potential award of $400,000.
