🎙 Episode 6 of 'Me, Myself and ITV' is out now 🎉 From a love of Jungle Run to owning every episode of Stars In Their Eyes on VHS, Sion Jenkins’ career has always been driven by his childhood love of TV. Now an on-screen journalist and presenter for ITV Wales, Sion has built a reputation for his memorable ‘and finally’ segments. He presents the current affairs series Y Byd ar Bedwar (The World on 4), produced by ITV for S4C. Sion chats with Becky about his reporting adventures in Las Vegas, Istanbul, and Rwanda, and how opening up about his own struggles with anxiety led him to create a programme to help others. He also shares how he chooses his next TV fix, with Long Lost Family and anything by Gino, Gordon, and Fred always at the top of his list. 📺 WHY ARE CERTAIN SHOWS CANCELLED AND OTHER’S KEPT? 📺 Most of us have probably thought this and I came across this video where Richard Osman explains how TV programmes need to hit 3 things to be kept: 📈 Ratings - is it being watched by lots of people? 🔁 Repeatability - can you broadcast the same episode/show multiple times? 🌎 International sales - can the programme be sold overseas? Yes, Osman is referring specifically to the BBC in the video, but I found it interesting to learn of this 3 points system. This could also work when assessing ideas brands might have for example: - Setting up a podcast - Creating a YouTube series There’s a lack of economies of scale when content is so specific to a time period, and explains why programmes such as Mock The Week were cancelled. Enjoy!

Ever fallen into the trap of binging on TV shows, video games or any mindless activity? You're just wanting to rest and not thinking about work or your problems. But you end up more tired. The strong thing that you can do. What takes lots of brain muscle, is turning off that TV after one episode or stopping the video game after thirty minutes. You can do it if you prepare ahead of time. You have one of two choices regarding TV 1. Don’t turn the TV on in the first place. 2. Put a timer on for thirty minutes and tell someone you’re doing this for accountability. Another, better thing to do is choose another activity that is all set up the night before. For example: reading a book, taking a long bath, listening to a specific podcast episode. Whatever activity you do, it should keep you calm. That means no action movies or things that upset you. Be active in choosing what you do to relax so that you’re not stuck in a cycle of pretend rest and end up feeling worse after.

BBC Journalist & Presenter, Ros Atkins, recently announced the launch of a new podcast series delving into the art of communication, with a range of interesting guests breaking down their personal communication styles. Ros initially gained lots of attention during the height of the pandemic and party-gate scandal, providing short and engaging explainer videos on many of the most pressing news stories of the time. He proved that complex topics can be easily digested with the power of effective communication. Our Senior Consultant, Sam Burgess, shares some of his key tips to help with this nuanced task: Simplify Your Language: Use straightforward words and avoid jargon. Clear, simple language makes your message accessible to a wider audience, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, can grasp the core concepts. Be Concise: Keep your key points brief and to the point. Aim to condense your main ideas into short, impactful statements. This exercise forces you to distil the information to its essence, making your communication more impactful. Tell a Story: Data and statistics are powerful, but they can be dry. Craft your information into a narrative to engage your audience. Storytelling not only captivates your audience but also provides essential context for the key issues at hand. Use Visual Aids: Diagrams, charts, and infographics can convey complex information more efficiently than text alone. Visual aids help break down intricate ideas into more digestible pieces, making it easier for your audience to understand and retain the information. Employ Metaphors and Analogies: Analogies draw comparisons between the unknown and the familiar, making new information less daunting and more approachable. Make It Relevant: Ensure that each key point is relevant to your audience. Clearly explain why your message matters and how it impacts them. This approach helps your audience understand the value and importance of the information. https://lnkd.in/gZaErfhy

Here’s something we’ve been working on for a good while. With BBC Radio 4 and Listen, I'm doing a new podcast where I seek out some of the best communicators - and find out how they do it. I’ve loved hearing their different approaches - I've learned a great deal, and I hope listeners will too. I'll be posting more about the series in the coming weeks. It arrives in late June. There are more details on this and lots of other new BBC titles here. Plus information on a new partnership between the BBC and Lemonada Media . https://lnkd.in/etwVNqPg

TV Writer. Filmmaker. CEO. Building HONEY CHILE, an indie media company serving Black women 40+, and empowering other niche storytellers to tell their stories and reach their audiences.
What does it take to get a TV show on the air? It was quite the awakening when I sold my first TV project. Chile, I had no idea what it took to sell anything and it wouldn't be until years later that I realized how ridiculously hard it is to get a show on the air. In this week’s episode of The Creative Cut Up podcast, we dive into what it really means to sell a TV show or film idea. Some of the things we cut up about: ⭐ Differences between pitching a TV show versus a film idea ⭐ What it means to sell a TV show vs. setup a TV show ⭐ The roles the producer, studio, and network play in selling an idea ⭐ How selling an idea doesn’t mean it will make it on air Listen to Episode 12 where ever you listen to podcasts or at https://lnkd.in/gxRA5wNm.

If you're wondering why you haven't seen hide nor hair of me for a while, it's because I've been working on this podcast project, finding some new ways to expand how I use my writing and media skills. It's a satirical work focused on the TV and Film industry in Vancouver, expanding out to the city at large. "'Should I Be Worried?' Announcing Infinite Danger, a podcast dedicated to Danger Bay, analyzing the Canadian TV Classic episode by episode. All 40 seasons of it. Join me, your host, as I discuss the ongoing trillion-dollar franchise that made Vancouver the city it is today."

Here's my favourite piece of comedy from this week. On a recent broadcast segment featuring some-or-the-other talking head and the usual accompaniment of news anchors listening with rapt attention, heard him complain about reach and influence the following way: "You have a huge swath of young people and Gen-Zers listening to all these podcasts, that you and I don't listen to, watching all these YouTube channels, that you and I don't watch, and on all these social media platforms, that you and I aren't really active on. And so, the challenge is, how do we effectively reach all these people and get our message through to them?" I don't know, maybe start engaging with those podcasts, #socialmedia platforms and #YouTube channels, to begin with. That would be a good start. Better than complaining to news presenters on a flagging broadcast network.
