Tim Prebble shared on Twitter the T&C from XLN Audio after the release of their new plugin (which by the way looks very cool). The company promptly clarified a couple of points, linking to this FAQ: https://lnkd.in/eKumi2tN I actually don’t doubt their good intentions and there is the possibility that they’re using a third-party technology requiring them to put this in the T&C. It still raises questions over the impact machine learning has on our right to privacy. And I also considered this: what if I’m using this on a client’s recording? Would I need to obtain permission from them to share data with XLN? We live in an interesting world. #sounddesign #gameaudio

When one of Dr Disrespects responses was: “...I get it, it’s a hot topic but this has been settled, no wrongdoing was acknowledged and they paid out the whole contract.” The crisis management spidey senses weren’t just tingling anymore they were screaming and running in circles on fire. It's no surprise that the studio he cofounded distanced themselves from him. A lot of folks are questioning why Twitch/Amazon didn’t do more. As a crisis comms expert and former Amazonian (AWSer), it's clear they prioritize protection of the company and brand above all else. I can hear the convo between leadership in my head now: “should we turn this to the authorities?” “If we do- then we are admitting we let this happen and people will be wondering who else we might be covering for.” “We are opening ourselves up for possible lawsuits…” “If it comes out he did this before we could be liable for not doing a background check.” “If we turn it over to the authorities without them asking for it or having a warrant we are going to lose the trust of everyone using our systems because privacy.” “What if we just fire him and tell him we know what he did- that should keep him from saying anything, and if it ever does come out we are covered cause we did fire him!” This is the exact sort of ethical situation I talk to my students about- where a company is in a grey zone of what is legally okay and what is morally/ethically right. How can Spotify not have 2FA (2-factor-authentication) in 2024? I am shocked. Today I found out that Spotify does not have even the most basic security measure available. There is no way to use 2FA, unless you want to involve a third party like Google or Facebook, which I don't. There is a feature request open for this since January 2015. In 2018 they were gracious enough to comment and say that it is under consideration. Find the link below. And since at one point in time they had silently removed the feature to disconnect devices from you account, I find it hard to not see intention here. Interestingly, there is 2FA available in Spotify for artists. #security #2fa
