Meritalia is back. Back to challenge conventions and conformisms. Back to fill up concepts, shapes and volumes, to materialise inventions. Back to experiment new ways to experience spaces. Back to redefine domesticity and take back the centre - the core - of the room. Radical ideas turned into desirable objects, demanding to be touched, handled, grasped, enjoyed, lived. Meritalia rejects any dull respectability in favour of a consciously incoherent approach to design, lounging on the discipline to remould it over and over again. Stateless ideas and Italian savoir faire, minds and hands, hearts and tools. Encounters that are only possible in the swarming space where concepts translate into objects: the factory, of items as much as of desires. Now, Meritalia circles back to the value of what is made by hand, but with the head always wandering through the clouds. Intelligent and premonitory craftsmanship that praises incoherence as ideal and attitude and turns it into constructions, materials and details, causing a reaction between ancient techniques and cutting-edge experimentations. Meritalia’s products, ever re-interpreted and always recognisable, are getting ready to be carried around, unpacked, unwrapped, done and undone and done again to satisfy the creative flair of the people who decide to own them, and live the philosophy they stand for.

In the recently concluded CIFF, Sunon kept the 3R sustainable design concept throughout the exhibition hall design, fully considering the efficient use of resources and environmental sustainability. Reduce: The main structure of the exhibition hall is built using mortise and tenon joints, greatly reducing the use of glue and nails. Reuse: Factory-existing wooden pallets are used for the exhibition hall's hard furnishings, cleaned and polished without additional coatings, and can be reused after dismantling. Soft furnishings are sourced from office areas and can continue to be used after the exhibition ends. Recycle: Green plants with soil are used for the exhibition, bringing natural vitality. After the exhibition, the plants are recycled and replanted, forming a closed-loop utilization of resources. Just wrapped up my first visit to BAU China, and I must say it doesn't quite compare to BAU Munich. The NECC is massive, but walking around in the wet weather for the last two days has been a challenge. The crowd is noticeably sparse, reflecting the slowdown in the global economy. It feels like the glory days of Great China are behind us, as there's a clear lack of international exhibitors as well as visitors this year. Overall, it's been an eye-opening experience for this Shanghai show. One positive aspect I've noticed at BAU China is the abundance of ongoing forums featuring industry experts discussing sustainable green building design. The emphasis on low carbon design is truly a highlight of the show and reflects the industry's commitment to more sustainable practices. Established in 2006, KČN is the largest cluster in the Czech Republic focused on the furniture and woodworking industry, including interior design. It comprises leading Czech furniture companies, traders, exhibitors, universities, and research institutes.
