With great enthusiasm, I announce the completion of the “Design Thinking for Innovation” course, offered by the University of Virginia through Coursera. It’s been a journey marked not only by acquiring certification but also by the broadening of my understanding and perspectives on innovation. The course, led by the esteemed Professor Jeanne M. Liedtka, proved to be more than academic instruction; it was an odyssey into the mindset of design thinking. The structured content, punctuated by engaging lectures and interactive sessions, allowed me to delve into real-world challenges while adopting a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Here are a few characteristics of design thinking that resonated deeply with me and are now etched in my approach to innovation: Human-Centered: Understanding that at the heart of innovation lie human needs and experiences. Possibility-Driven: Adopting a ‘What if?’ mindset that asks what if anything were possible. Option-Focused: Steering clear of solution tunnel vision by nurturing a diverse basket of possibilities. Iterative: Committing to real-world experiments and learning from them, rather than solely relying on historical data. Utilizing tools such as co-creation, journey mapping, visualization, ethnographic studies, storytelling, projective techniques, and learning launches, I’ve honed my ability to empathize deeply and ideate broadly. Each tool has proved instrumental in painting a canvas of possibilities for problem-solving. What truly captivated me, though, was how the course shattered my ‘Moses Miracle’ assumption—the idea that innovation is a miraculous event dependent on the rare genius. Instead by exploring the notion that “we are going to build bridges to cross over the other side,” the course instilled in me the conviction that we’re all capable of crafting our own miracles. This revelation has been both liberating and empowering. It advocates for inclusivity in the innovation process, emphasizing that with the right mindset and techniques, we can all contribute to groundbreaking change. A heartfelt thank you goes to Professor Jeanne Liedtka for the enlightenment and the University of Virginia for the exemplary platform. Here’s to continuous learning and to look forward to crossing new bridges into the landscape of innovation. #DesignThinking #InnovationMindset #UniversityOfVirginia

I'm happy to announce that I've completed the "Designing Product Families: From Strategy to Implementation" course from MIT Professional Education! This intensive program delved into how product architecture, platforms, and commonality can help firms manage a family of products, blending strategic insights with practical implementation. Throughout the course, we explored the development and manufacturing of product variants derived from a common platform or modular architecture. The focus was on leveraging component reuse, streamlined processes, and proven design solutions to achieve learning curve advantages and economies of scale. Balancing these benefits with the need for customization and competitive differentiation was a key learning takeaway. Engaging with the latest theories, case studies, and interactive activities, I gained valuable insights into platform strategies that foster innovation and drive new revenue growth. This experience has enriched my understanding of leveraging existing brands and technologies to create innovative, competitive product families. Looking forward to applying these strategies in my professional journey! #MIT #MITPE Clara Piloto Ed.M
