Having to acknowledge a three decade career on this International Women's Day, let's celebrate the resilience of women in business. According to the Women in Business Statistics: 2024 report, almost 1 in 5 UK companies (18%) are led by women in 2024, more than 880,000. Over 150,000 new all-women-led companies were founded in 2022, more than any year previously. Despite challenges, we continue to thrive and contribute significantly to the world economy. Check out the 50/50 Women on Boards First Quarter Report for 2024 on the current status of women's representation on corporate boards in the US. "Analysis of the Russell 3000 shows women hold only 29.7% of board seats, with a minimal 0.3% increase from the previous quarter and 0.8% from the previous year. Only 30.7% of the 587 new board positions are filled by women, the lowest percentage since 2017. Despite some sector and regional improvements, 41% of companies still have boards with two or fewer women." Movement is actually slowing down! Join us on June 6th! Every day is International Women's Day. #IWD But if there's a spotlight today, let's use it to shine a light on these stats: - Since 2015, the number of women in the C-suite has increased from 17 to 28%, and the representation of women at the VP and SVP levels has also improved significantly. - However, women represent roughly 1 in 4 C-suite leaders, and women of color just 1 in 16. - Because of the broken rung, in a typical company, men end up holding 60% of manager-level positions, while women hold just 40%. As a result, there are fewer women to promote to director, and the number of women decreases at every subsequent level. So what can we do better? Support women, hire women, promote women.
