Under UMG's new regional structural initiative, their East Coast Record Labels, including Def Jam Records, have combined to organize "Republic Corps." This article talks about the new structure of both the company and the changes in management with the changes that have come along with this organization, as well as its affects on UMG as a whole. What do you think of this change in UMG? What do you think it means for record labels in the future? David Philp #musicindustry #music #universalmusicgroup #umg

Are you a #royaltymanager trying to build your authority in the #music industry? On one side, the rightsholders pour their passion into their work, seeking fair compensation and recognition. On the flip side, the organisation juggles budgets, contracts, and profitability. Then, how do royalty managers create a perfect symphony amid the chaos? Transparency is the key. By prioritizing transparency and trust. 1. Providing artists with clear, comprehensive royalty statements, building mutual respect and understanding. 2. Explaining complex royalty structures to rightsholders and stakeholders clearly, ensuring harmonious alignment of rights, and guarding fairness and integrity. 3. Highlighting the correlation between rightsholders' and organizations' success and ensuring great collaboration can achieve higher revenue. A big shoutout to all the royalty managers out here! #RoyaltiesManagement #MusicIndustryNews #Music #MetadataManagement #Noctil

I wanted to share this interesting article. We have actually raised this issue in the past with our performing arts clients. It is a paradox that as traditional subscription continues to decline, we think nothing of paying monthly for access to music, movies, food etc. This is even more prevalent with young people, and our research has shown they have little interest in ever buying into the traditional model. Perhaps this shift is not the panacea but continuing to lose audience without thinking bigger does not look like a formula for success. https://lnkd.in/eSQWihCr

This is a really interesting article - particularly the point about industry infrastructure.
What does it take for us to create a pop star in Singapore? A timely CNA piece by Grace Yeoh with insights from living legends like Kit Chan, Kevin Foo, Inch Chua, Sezairi Sezali, Josh Wei, and Leonard Soosay. As a person that's spent most of my adult life so far building the music scene here, Grace's article really hits home for me. There's so much more we can do but we need artists, labels, broadcasters, and the government to work together and stay focused.
IN FOCUS: Can Singapore produce a music icon who commands Taylor Swift's levels of success and adulation?

Skills Development is very much key in the South African Music industry and the convergence of old knowledge with new information is also very crucial. Too many artists keep repeating too many similar mistakes and paying with their lives or careers in most cases. The Music Business in South Africa has failed to wholistically blossom with the artists over the years. It's going to be interesting how digital will impact the next 50 years of the region's music business.
The South African music business has changed significantly, over the past few decades. This has made navigating the industry challenging for artists, producers and music industry creatives. I spoke with Newzroom Afrika on this how this vibrant sector has evolved. https://lnkd.in/dtynXN3h

Another amazing release from your friends at SRG-ILS / Virgin / UMG New single, "SO IN LOVE" from music royalty and multi-award winning singer-songwriter-producer and activist, LALAH HATHAWAY. "SO IN LOVE" serves as the official first single release from Lalah Hathaway's forthcoming studio album, "VANTABLACK." "So In Love" can be found on all streaming/download platforms now. The anticipated eighth studio album will be globally released on June 14th, 2024, and is available for pre-orders now, via the Hathaway Entertainment/SRG-ILS Group (Virgin Music Group) label imprint. ‘So In Love’ was written by Philip Beaudreau and I a couple years ago with the intention to pitch it, but we loved it so much and decided to sit with it for a while. I’ve recently added it to my show and it’s one of the most beloved pieces that we perform," shares Lalah. ‘So In Love’ has such a vibe and like a lot of the work i do, it explores some of the more non traditional ideas about love, and self love. The video does this on a grand scale!", she adds. Speaking of the music video, the stunning visuals of the "So In Love" music video will be making its global premiere on BET Soul and BET.com on Thursday, May 9th. As we prepare for the release of VANTABLACK, music lovers abroad will be taken on a magical ride of this new Lalah Hathaway era, as she will be treating them with a new music every other week leading up to the release of VANTABLACK. Lalah Hathaway comments, "VANTABLACK was always the name of the project. The word itself has so much weight on it, I was really unsure of how to approach the idea of writing the song. At the time, what I thought were conflicting perspectives, actually began to shape the concept of not only this album but also how I saw myself. I started reframing how I saw color, in terms of being the blackest I've ever been and even though I'm steeped in who I am, it doesn't exclude the other things that make up the sum of me. Similar to how all the music around me informs the black music that I create. So it's all a melting pot and this song truly exemplifies that." This discussion gave me a deeper search in understanding of how the Paradigm shift has created modern challenges and new opportunities. Independent artists are learning to grow without labels, but due to financial lack and market control they still hold some power. But, what Kanye West did with Vultures I shows that all you need is what Thando Makhunga simplifies. 😅 My personal opinion.
