Digital Mental Health │ Digital Therapeutics │ User Engagement │ Practical Implementation of DTx solutions
#ESRII Symposium - 2nd (out of 4) presentation. 🍍 This one is very close to my heart. Dan Duffy presented the findings from his PhD on #implementationscience and what the ingredients are for successful implementation of #digitalmentalhealth solutions. 🛠 Dan and I started doing implementations even before implementation was a word we used, back then was most like “we need to help build/set-up SilverCloud for this new customer”. 🐻 So this PhD was a gigantic piece of research where my friend was gone for 3 years. He went into a cave and we tried to cheer him up from the outside (and of course pretending we were useful)! 😕 One of the things that struck me the most when started in industry was how the same platform that had showed great results in RCTs and was doing so well in some services could be doing not as good (or even bad!) in others. 🕵♂️ That’s what Dan’s research was about, "can we look at what science and healthcare organizations are doing in terms of implementation of #digitaltherapeutics, identify what are the components of success for “high-performing services” and then rank them (based on a Delphi study) by the level of importance?" (as easy as it sounds! 😖) 🔝 From the findings, the top 5 most important factors across several domains with consensus across experts were: 1. Establishing the information technology governance standards (e.g. interoperability, security) 2. Having a management team that sets clear and visible goals (e.g access targets) for iCBT delivery within a service 3. Designing and revising care pathways to integrate iCBT within services 4. To manage service resources (staff, time) to support the delivery of iCBT 5. Have the correct team (e.g. sales, customer support, product, development) in place to support the implementation of iCBT in services ⁉ Do you make sure these aspects are addressed when doing new implementations? Dan Duffy’s papers are currently ‘in press’ in high-impact scientific journals, so more to come on this topic soon! https://lnkd.in/dBXumBsP

I loved reading this post about 'unlearning' and can see it's applicability across a range of sectors. In my role as a digital strategist I see the need for 'unlearning' when working with organisations encouraging them to think differently about how their current systems (for example) need to be re-thought, re-evaluated and changed, freeing themselves from their current thinking and from holding onto processes that are more hindrance than helpful. Sometimes taking that first step is the most daunting, as Cara Puah CMP, CEM, DES said: 'see the voids', and then to pursue 'unconventional creativity'. Good luck with your 2024 event, and thanks to Deanna Varga (MBA, MAICD) for the link.

2 years into normalising (post covid), we are still struggling. Everyone I met are feeling tired and we know 2024 will continue to be full of uncertainty with geo-politic tensions, economic pressures, etc. Key issues like talent development and motivation, cost management, market visibility, ROI etc. remain core. How do we find new ways to create and manage a future that is sustainable? The saying "old dogs new tricks" may be apt - it's human nature to resist change (consciously and unconsciously). Unlearning is real hard work. Doing it together with your community makes hard work fun! Join us on 15-16 April in Singapore to unlearn and relearn together!
