2moI just had an interesting conversation about this very topic today, with a company that is aiming to develop AI based tools to facilitate operational processing. The insight from the conversation is that the sweet spot for Investment Operations (in a wide sense - front to back office) might be in finding ways to help transition historic processes into a new paradigm. To re-phrase: evolution rather than revolution. If you think about it, there are still many aspects of work that are still essentially founded on creating & refining documents that are designed and structured as if they are still paper-based (even though appearing in digital form) e.g. agreements of any kind (investment agreements, distribution agreements), fund prospectuses, etc. These could already now transition into an era where the ingestion of the key content within those documents - essential for operational execution - is greatly and further facilitated by AI. If applied, this could in turn become the kicker for further standardization of such documents, triggering a virtuous cycle of innovation.
