Flughafen Wien - Vienna Airport: We are delighted that Flughafen Wien - Vienna Airport has returned to normality in 2023 - we have reached our cruising altitude again... Not for many years have we seen such satisfied faces on the Management Board of Flughafen Wien - Vienna Airport as we did yesterday during the presentation of the 2023 traffic results. With 29.5 million passengers handled (+24.7%) and an above-average punctuality rate, the airport was also able to score points as a Lufthansa hub last year. "We are delighted that Vienna Airport has returned to normality in 2023 - we have reached our cruising altitude again". Airport Director Julian Jäger began his press conference with these words. Although the airport was not yet able to reach the all-time passenger record of 31.6 million passengers handled in 2019, the outlook for the current year is very promising thanks to continued strong demand on the local market. Although the airport management is still very low with its forecasts for 2024 (around 30 million passengers), I dare to predict that the record result of 2019 will probably be exceeded... Although some airlines from Asia are still not flying to Flughafen Wien - Vienna Airport, Airport Director Jäger is optimistic: "We expect more capacity for Asia and America this year". Although no details will be given in response to enquiries, Jäger is optimistic that former or new airlines will start operations to Vienna this year. The company is also satisfied with the use of ever larger aircraft to Vienna, with an average utilisation of 80.5% of aircraft, the highest figure in the airport's history. Leading role among Lufthansa Group hubs: Within the Lufthansa Group , the Vienna site also made a name for itself with its high punctuality rate. In comparison with other European airports, it was the fifth most punctual airport and the third most punctual transfer hub, which benefited the performance of home carrier Austrian Airlines. With a market share of 46.9% or 13,862,273 passengers handled, the Lufthansa subsidiary remains the undisputed number one in terms of passenger movements. The continued high demand for air travel at Munich Airport is reflected in the air traffic results for the first half of 2024: There were more than 19 million passengers from January 1 to June 30 – an increase of 14.8 percent compared to the same period last year. We were the most punctual low-cost airline in Europe in November! 🛫🕛 According to Cirium, a global consultancy specialising in aviation analysis, Vueling obtained a punctuality rate of 86.31 % based on the more than 15,700 flights it has operated this month. ➡ In Barcelona, Vueling was the leading low-cost airline in terms of punctuality in November, achieving a rate of 89.7% with almost five thousand flights operated. ➡ In Bilbao we also came out on top with a punctuality rate of 86.3%. ➡ The company was also a leader in punctuality at the airports of Seville, with 91.3%; Palma de Mallorca, with 93.9%, Tenerife Norte, with 85.4%; Gran Canaria, with 89.4%; Santiago de Compostela, with 89.5%; A Coruña, with 86.7%, and Vigo, with 84.2%. Day 6 – The Network of KM Malta Airlines On this 6th day before our inaugural flight, KM640, to Catania on 31 March, we will explain our network strategy. A commercially efficient network is key to the financial sustainability of any airline. Together with industry-leading experts at SABRE Consulting, we have undertaken an extensive mapping exercise to design a new route network that is the most commercially efficient network to connect Malta to Europe. SABRE’s output proposed a new network using a ‘clean-sheet’ approach, resulting in enhanced territorial connectivity between the Maltese Islands and Europe Although the total number of routes has been reduced from 23 to 17, we have added increased frequencies on some of our core and mature routes to improve our product offering and to maximize aircraft utilization to 12.03 hours per aircraft per day. We have simultaneously increased the number of Business Class seats to 36 with a sales focus to maximize the load factor in this class. We will fly to 17 airports in 15 key Western European cities and attach to the bigger airlines through codeshare agreements and interline partnerships. These are important passenger and cargo hubs that provide excellent connectivity across the globe. With Malta’s size and population making long-haul routes unprofitable and unsustainable in the long run, it is crucial to rely on indirect connectivity from such airports as a gateway to the rest of the world.
