This fall we had the pleasure of collaborating with Johnson Financial Group, headquartered in Racine, Wisconsin, to build a unique way for college students to learn about a career within the organization. Our joint Career Exploration Workshop in IT & Information Security in Banking was a highlight of the awesome culture at Johnson Financial Group and a sneak peek for any student on how to stand out in their application to open roles at the company. We're excited to share a highlight of HR & Culture session presented by Logan Aguilar, HR Early Career Specialist at Johnson Financial Group.

Realising the two most important aspects of any successful business. The customer and the people who run the business 👏👏👏👏
A brilliant morning yesterday spent with our early careers new joiners - the future leaders of M&S. Building a high-performance "sleeves rolled up" culture where we are getting closer to our customers and our colleagues is at the heart of reshaping M&S for growth. And all 65,000 of us have a role to play in driving this change. That's why we've reshaped all three of our early careers programmes, putting even more focus on getting closer to our customers and colleagues across every part of the business. Whether you're on our Food, Clothing & Home or Retail programme, all our new joiners will now start life at M&S with a four-month placement in our stores. A big welcome to all our new joiners. Lots done, lots to do.

Big news for PNC! The American Opportunity Index just released its latest report, “Best Places for High School Graduates to Start a Career,” and PNC made the top-5 out of the 50 companies recognized! The analysis ranked companies by how well they hired entry level workers (first jobs), promoted them internally (advancement within), and prepared them for better opportunities if they leave (advancement beyond). This is huge and validates the significant work we've undertaken to make PNC a great place to start (and advance) your career!!

When you get a warning letter for poor performance, or some verbal warning, the first stage of being fired, what you do next has a greater impact on your career than you probably realise. So, a lot of people immediately start looking for another job, it seems to be the right time to jump ship and start on a clean slate. Now, when I was at Morgan Stanley, I found out (when I shouldn't have) a senior manager had written me a scathing review, so scathing it ordinarily would have led to a termination. His comments were fair, I had been bumming around, it was a wake-up call. So what do you do? Well, you don't give up just because you performed badly or because someone thought that. You reflect, you think where you went wrong, you fight back, because if you don't you'll remember for the rest of your life that when the sh*t hit the fan you failed to deliver. And when it gets tough next time, you'll wilt again. Driven by my fear of failure, my fear of being rejected, the thought of quitting didn't even occur to me. Six months after reading that scathing review, through some damn hard work as well as some careful internal manoeuvring I not only kept my job, but was promoted, perhaps a reminder to us that if people can be categorised into A to E player buckets, we can move between them. When I’m in difficult situations, I look back these relatively tough times where I’ve come out on top to inspire me to do it again, that’s the mirror I need to see. Listen, don't make your life into a series of failures, always get the job done, and then leave not because you failed, but because you wanted to, and on your own terms.

Legal & Compliance Executive | Tech Start-Up Advisor | Government & Industry Relations Manager | Corporate Sustainability Advocate
My career is like a March Madness bracket. Upsets all over the place. When I think my career is moving along a clear and certain path,BAM!!!!, an “upset” changes everything. At the end of 2021, my scientific data and IP services company acquired another competitor but, surprisingly, it was my whole leadership team that was let go after the acquisition. I was unprepared for the 13 month soul-crushing job search that followed but during that time, I discovered my passion and commitment to work on the climate problem and to help people and planet. I pivoted to learn about climate science, the carbon markets, principles of sustainability, social justice, and ESG disclosures requirements - all new skills and knowledge that I never had previously, and in doing so I grew and found a new path. Turns out that in our careers, like March Madness, upsets can be the most exciting part of the journey. Have you had to pivot your career after an upset or have you always managed to stay on a certain path? #marchmadness #careerpivot #hoopdreams 🏀 🏀 #lifelonglearning
