This insightful session highlighted various materials and programs available to support the adoption and implementation of the ISSB Standards. 📊 International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are globally recognized accounting standards that enable companies to present consistent and reliable financial information. By adhering to IFRS, organizations can foster trust and facilitate informed decision-making among investors, creditors, regulators, and other stakeholders. 🔍 Key takeaways from the webinar: 1️⃣ First Advice: Read the Standards! 2️⃣ Support Resources: Application Guidance: Available on the IFRS website, providing illustrative examples and guidance. Educational Material: Extensive resources to aid understanding and implementation. Transition Implementation Group for IFRS S1 & S2: A public forum for stakeholders to discuss implementation questions, with meetings summarized and recorded on ifrs.org. The next meeting is scheduled for September 19-20, 2024. 👥 Capacity Building Initiatives: Collaboration with partners to deliver training, workshops, and some global sessions that are free of charge. Turning to sustainability reporting, a growing number of initiatives have been launched to help entities meet the new requirements, including the publication by #EFRAG of an initial series of answers to questions posed by stakeholders concerning the application of #ESRS. Last week, the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) released its draft Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards for public consultation through June 10, 2024. The disclosure standards remain voluntary while the CSSB continues to engage with Canada’s regulatory bodies (Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) - Autorités canadiennes en valeurs mobilières (ACVM), Ontario Securities Commission, etc.) who determine the mandatory application rules for publicly listed enterprises in the country. Great introduction today from the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) chair, Emmanuel Faber, at today's Symposium. He highlighted a few tipping points for action, to ensure adoption of a common sustainability language, which is so critical to activating capital markets to fund sustainable transition. 👉 need to move from fragmentation to one language for pricing sustainability risks and opportunities by financial markets 👉 global capital can then be mobilized to finance local climate resilience and transition 👉 but in doing so, we must avoid going from a voluntary alphabet soup of ratings to a mandatory one... We need data to make good decisions, and as sustainability science is still evolving, it's critical that we agree and align on what data and information we need, how to assure it's quality, and how to use it in a way that drives better choices... As a long-time sustainability practitioner I'm very happy to see such attention to financial impacts of sustainability risks/opportunities, and the ongoing efforts of harmonization and standardization towards one global language.
