It’s been a pleasure presenting our work at FAIR Forward during the Asia Pacific Climate Week at the “UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee: Exploring the use of artificial intelligence for climate action in Asia & Pacific”, alongside my colleague Karlina Octaviany. In Indonesia, our collaborative project involves the High Carbon Stock Approach Foundation, ETH Zürich, and Seknas JKPP (Jaringan Kerja Pemetaan Partisipatif), the Indonesian network for participatory mapping. Together, we are advancing the development of an indicative High Carbon Stock Map. This map serves as a crucial tool for forest protection and sustainable supply chain management, with a core focus on ethical and community-based guidelines, incorporating principles such as FPIC (Free, Prior and Informed Consent). Currently, we are in the final stages of field reference data collection, aiming to verify biomass, assess various land cover aspects, and understand socio-economic factors. This data forms the foundation for refining an existing algorithm for carbon stock classification in Indonesia and beyond. We are committed to open-sourcing a data sharing and anonymization guideline, aligning with ethical guidelines, and adhering to #FAIR and #CARE data sharing principles. The panel discussion underscored the significance of addressing community concerns. Recognizing the potential impact of changes in land status on local livelihoods is a crucial consideration that requires careful attention. Additional challenges involve ensuring transparent communication regarding data usage and implementing effective anonymization processes. The Go Green with Taiwan competition invites innovative proposals from companies, research institutions, NGOs, universities, and other entities across Africa, aiming to leverage Taiwan’s eco-friendly products and solutions to promote environmental and economic sustainability on the continent. As Africa grapples with significant climate change challenges, this initiative seeks bold solutions to foster a sustainable future. The competition will reward the top three proposals with $20,000 each, while six finalists will enjoy a fully-funded trip to Taiwan to experience its sustainable technologies. Participants will also have the opportunity to connect with leading Taiwanese green tech companies and gain valuable insights into sustainable practices. To qualify, proposals must demonstrate potential for environmental and economic sustainability, clear feasibility, originality and creativity, and effective use of Taiwanese green products or solutions. As part of its 2024-2026 work plan, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) will research risks and opportunities associated with sustainability topics beyond climate for entities to meet the information needs of investors. The research projects will help the ISSB decide whether it should pursue standard-setting for disclosure requirements on some or all of these topics. The ISSB will explore information about sustainability-related risks and opportunities associated with biodiversity, ecosystems and ecosystem services (BEES) and human capital. Biodiversity is a proxy for functional, productive and resilient ecosystems that are able to provide the ecosystem services upon which life on earth relies. Human capital refers to the people who make up a company’s own workforce and workers in the company’s value chain. Consistent with the Integrated Reporting Framework, human capital also refers to the workforce and workers' competencies; capabilities and experience; and motivations to innovate. Initial research on both the above topics will seek to define the projects' scope and determine how best to stage work on the topics to produce timely analysis and explore the necessity and feasibility of standard-setting. #finance #accounting #financialstatements #internalaudit #externalaudit #charteredaccountants
