The IFRS Foundation Conference 2024, held on 24 and 25 June, brought together over 400 delegates from more than 60 jurisdictions. The conference showcased the latest developments from the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), as well as insights from industry experts. 👏 We would like to thank all delegates and speakers for their participation in and contributions to the conference. The IFRS Foundation Conference is a great opportunity to network with people who are interested in the IFRS Foundation Standards and to hear directly from those writing the standards about what's happening. I think people should come here because we take input from our stakeholders very seriously. We want to hear from stakeholders first; As to what they like, what they dislike, what other suggestions they have, so that we can actually contemplate and mull over that and feed it back into the debate and come up with a better result for everyone. As part of my day-to-day job, I keep track of what the IASB does and tune in to most meetings, if not all. So I am already in tune with the board's activities. But I think there is something about being in the conference from my perspective that just enriches that, and the opportunity to ask directly the questions I have and what I'm hearing from my clients and be able to get that rapport and discussion with the technical stuff, I think is very invaluable. You can't really get that elsewhere. I think the IFRS Foundation Conference every year is giving pace to our work. The sustainability field is evolving really fast, and I think it's good that we have this yearly opportunity to come back, report, discuss and engage with the next stage. The best part is sustainability is also part of the conference, which is really great, because historically these conferences are more focused towards just the Accounting Standards and what has been introduced, what's in the pipeline, what are the future projects, for example. But sustainability has got a lot of attention, which makes it for me pretty good. The breakout sessions definitely were very helpful in terms of getting into the finer details and asking some of the key questions I had. So I'd say yes, overall I achieved what I wanted.

We welcome the announcement that PAN AFRICAN FEDERATION OF ACCOUNTANTS—an IFRS Foundation Capacity Building Partner—is establishing a Centre of Excellence for Sustainability to support the adoption and implementation of #ISSB Standards in Africa. The centre will provide crucial capacity building support, empowering professional accountancy organisations in Africa to drive high-quality disclosure across the continent.
