Three years ago today, American democracy demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of shocking political violence. The legacy of January 6th should serve as a powerful call to action for Americans across the political spectrum to unite around the values that underlie their democracy: electoral integrity, respect for the rule of law, and abiding by the will of the people regardless of who wins or loses. Amid rising political polarization and the upcoming 2024 elections, it is crucial that Americans and their representatives remain committed to strengthening US democratic institutions and ensuring American democracy can weather future challenges.

The Optimist's guide to Better Elections RepresentUS, the host of this webinar, is one of the best non-partisan organizations I know focused on improving elections, supporting all three of the main pillars of election improvement: Anti-Gerrymandering, Better Election Methods (they prefer Ranked Choice Voting, which is probably best, but I also like unitary primaries. Both drive choices to the middle!) and Voting Access. OBTW, none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger, when he was governor of California, instituted many of these, including a non-partisan commission to do the districting maps and unitary primaries to enable the middle to outvote the wing nuts.
