On 1 January 2024, the new Sustainable Procurement Policy at the European Patent Office entered into force, reaffirming the EPO's dedication to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the promotion of a circular economy. It focuses on the social, environmental, and economic impact of purchased goods, services, and works. The policy also emphasises the EPO's commitment to good governance and sustainability in all activities and processes. It encourages working with responsible suppliers who uphold the rule of law, human rights, and environmental protection. The policy provides vendor guidelines, ensuring considerations such as labour practices, environmental impact, community involvement, equal treatment, gender equality, and ethical operating practices.
