KPI Engineering, Inc. professionals did their final walk through of the Bradford County School District elementary/middle school in Starke Florida. Funded by the The Florida Department of Education, this project now opening is the culmination of many years of planning and hard work in seeking funding. In fact, KPI Engineering Vice President and Operations Officer, Luis Vargas travelled to Tallahassee with Bradford County School Officials and architect Paul Stresing to advocate for its funding about five years ago. The approval was still met with obstacles and challenges including the reallocation of funds toward safety measures in school as a result of the unfortunate shooting incident at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in 2018 and COVID related reallocations in 2019. Needless to say, it is a joy to see this campus finally completed. Its impact will be significant. It replaces multiple schools found to have met and exceeded their useful life and needing replacement as part of a Castaldi Study completed in 2016. Throw🔙 to November 2008 when the €22 million Sports Centre was officially opened at University of Galway. The 6,500 sq.m. state-of-the-art sports and leisure complex included a 25 metre 6-lane swimming pool with moveable floor, squash and racquetball courts, a three-court basketball hall, multipurpose studios, a substantial gym and a high-tech climbing wall. The University of Galway Sports Centre (formerly known as the Kingfisher Sports Centre) was part of a €400 million capital development programme, 'Campus of the Future', to provide the highest standards of physical infrastructure to support excellence in teaching and research. The President of University of Galway at the time, Dr James J Browne commented: "The opening of the Sports Centre represents a milestone in the history of University of Galway. This state-of-the-art complex will make a significant contribution to the health, well-being and education of our students and staff and underlines the central role sport plays in life at University of Galway". The building incorporated significant 'green energy' initiatives, giving it a relatively low carbon footprint. Spiezle collaborated with Daytona State College to create a comprehensive and dynamic campus master plan for five campuses, including the main Daytona Beach campus along with of 4 of their regional campuses. The process was immersive and inclusive, drawing upon Spiezle’s planning and leadership capabilities and focusing on the unique capabilities and opportunities of the College. Through careful evaluation of enrollment trends, demographic shifts, workforce needs and community support structures, we worked in conjunction with the College Board, stakeholders, facilities teams, student groups and other interested parties over a nine-month period to create the final product. It represents a balance between adaptive re-use of existing inventory and infrastructure along with sensible and appropriate new construction to support the projected growth and continued success of the College. The final document captures the potential for growth and development strategies for Daytona State and is organized into 5-, 10- , and 20-year projections for each of the campuses. The proof of the plan being actionable can be seen in the College recently advancing several of the projects that were studied and planned as part of the process.
