I’m going on a 2-week vacation 😍 But before I go, I wanted to reflect on my time at Magic Design. And give you a bit of a backstory. [This will be a long one 👇] Before joining, I was set on specialising in Performance Marketing at an agency. I’ve always been a generalist and felt like I had to specialise to succeed. And yet… when a job description for Magic Design popped up, I had to apply. Even though it was an even more generalist role than a Marketing Manager - the Founder's Associate role 😅 It sounded perfect, because I understood their mission instantly: “Empower every business with great design” 💜 Coming from startups where marketers were scrambling to do the design work themselves 99% of the time, I felt their mission deeply. Getting on-brand design assets done quickly is a HUGE pain for most marketers and founders. They have hundreds of ideas. The problem is in the execution. For most tasks, you need great design. But looking for freelancers for every task can get expensive and time-consuming. And hiring in-house is a huge commitment for many months, not a quick or easy solution. I was hooked on the idea of a design subscription service. It made so much sense to me. On my interview day, I was blown away by the co-founders’ maker mindset. I thought I was productive, but oh man, meeting Maximilian Fleitmann and Sina Sadegh humbled me hahah 😂 They're SO passionate about delivering impactful designs to founders and marketers. And this is what convinced me to join them. That, and the fact that they don’t hire to micromanage. They hire you to take ownership and drive ideas forward. As a new grad, this meant changing my mindset from waiting for approval to trusting myself, learning as I go, and figuring things out when I'm stuck. I’m growing and learning in this role more than I ever have. And I’m empowered to try, fail and try again. Excited for the journey and what comes next for Magic Design. But also happy to take a longer break to eat some mangos, sleep more hours than I probably need, and chill on the beach with a romcom in hand 💁♀️ Follow Magic Design because there are lots of exciting top-secret things coming your way 😍 P.S. If you replied on my job opening post and didn't hear from us, here's why... Quick backstory: I posted this job opening, and quite a few people are replying with "Interested" or "How to apply?" Well... For me personally these kinds of messages are RED FLAGS. 🚩 🚩 🚩 And there are two simple reasons for that: 1/ Can't you just figure out "How to apply?" I mean.. How hard could it be to find a company's job opening on their website, review it and fill out the application form if you like it? Not sure about other companies, but here at Ahrefs we value independence, assertiveness and ability to figure things out. And I'm afraid you're not showing any of that by asking "How to apply." 2/ I don't trust that you're "Interested." The person who is REALLY interested will: - Find the job application and review the details of the role. - Browse our website to learn a little more about the company. - Fill in the application form in a way where we can tell they've done their homework and gave us plenty of relevant information to work with. And for every 5 people who merely left a comment there are 1-2 people who went ahead and actually applied for the role. And guess who's more likely to get the job? 😉
