When not designed with children’s needs in mind, Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots have an “empathy gap” that puts young users at particular risk of distress or harm, according to a study. * Human Intelligence Classification* Today, I had a wonderful experience with my kids that I just had to share. I gave them a mix of different snacks, and they took it upon themselves to classify them into distinct groups. It was amazing to see how they organized everything so neatly, making it easier to identify and choose their preferred snacks. One of the main uses of AI is classification, and today, my kids demonstrated a similar concept by sorting their snacks( human intelligence). Just like AI helps in organizing and identifying preferences, this activity helped them understand their own likes and dislikes better. This simple activity not only kept them engaged but also taught them valuable skills in organization and preference identification. It's incredible how such small tasks can foster learning and development in children. #Parenting #LearningThroughPlay #ChildDevelopment #OrganizationSkills #SnackTimeFun #AI #Classification

Despite ongoing federal and state discussions about AI regulations and risks, recent discourse has overlooked the use of AI by children and their families. Drawing on lessons from a recent Child Trends study on the capabilities of AI systems, Winnie Li and Kristen Harper argue for the necessity of stricter guidance and regulations for AI development in a new Child Trends blog. Their recommendations aim to mitigate the potential adverse effects AI systems may have on children and families.

Researcher and Senior Lecturer, disabled & neurodivergent: Twice-exceptionality specialist (gifted learners with disability), gifted education, disability, inclusion, diversity, and special education, Griffith University
"Artificial intelligence (AI) tools...have arrived in force, injecting AI into everything from drafting the simplest grocery list to writing complex computer code...for #scientists who identify as #disabled or #neurodivergent, or for whom English is a second language, these tools can help to overcome professional hurdles that disproportionately affect marginalized members of the academic community...Ayesha Pusey, a mental-health and #neurodivergence specialist at a UK disability-services organization, learnt that some of her students were facing disciplinary action for using #GAI. Pusey, who identifies as autistic, dyslexic and otherwise neurodivergent, uses these programs herself and says that although they can be used to cheat, they’re also invaluable for structuring her life. “I’ve had a lot of success just budgeting my time, down to the recipes I cook for myself.” Indeed, using chatbots as a kind of digital assistant has been game-changing for many scientists with chronic illnesses or disabilities or who identify as neurodivergent..." https://lnkd.in/gYUaYvMh #AI #disability #inclusion #ADHD #dyslexia #Autism #ASD #university #academia #academiccommunity

We had so fun much sharing our AI expertise with Julie Ann Dougery and her community of 25+ curious moms yesterday! Their thoughtful questions and lively discussions highlighted the importance of empowering parents to guide their children in this ever-evolving landscape. Thank you Lisa Ludwig Duffell who initially connected us. At Curious Cardinals, we believe starting with parent education is crucial. As AI reshapes our world, informed adults are the best compass for the next generation. It's like charting uncharted territory – we need clear ethical principles to navigate responsibly. So, parents, what's one key principle you'd teach your child about responsible AI use? Please share your thoughts in the comments👇 We'll be sure to add any favorite contributions to our next workshop :) #AI #parents #parentworkshops #lifelonglearning #staycurious

In 2021, I embarked on a transformative journey with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI, shifting from computer vision to the nuanced realm of natural language processing. Our ambitious goal: to create aiah for Parent Sense—a conversational chatbot designed to offer round-the-clock support to parents navigating the challenges of raising children. This endeavor led to the development of aiah, a closed loop AI system tailored specifically for Parent Sense. It stands as a beacon of accuracy, privacy, and real-time assistance, developed in close collaboration with domain experts like Megan Faure. Through deep learning and a commitment to providing personalized, evidence-based parenting advice, we’ve crafted a platform that serves as a reliable companion for parents worldwide. Aiah is more than a technological milestone; it’s a testament to the potential of AI to enrich lives with meaningful, immediate support. It marks a significant step forward in leveraging GenAI to transform the parenting experience, demonstrating the impactful synergy between GenAI innovation and deep domain expertise.
