InfluenceMap’s February 2024 analysis of lobbying responses to Australia’s Future Gas Strategy (FGS) by the largest fossil fuel and utility companies in Australia indicated that the strategy was at risk of being captured by the fossil fuel value chain. We can now see that fossil fuel capture of the FGS has taken place: The finalized strategy recycles several of the misleading and inaccurate industry narratives that were used in industry responses to promote a prolonged role for fossil gas through to 2050 and beyond. The International Energy Agency (IEA), in partnership with International Methane Emissions Observatory - IMEO and Environmental Defense Fund, just released Turning Pledges into Progress: An accountability framework for reducing emissions from the oil and gas industry https://lnkd.in/dErURqS3 It aims to support real emissions reductions from the oil and gas industry and improve understanding of companies’ progress towards the goals they have set. Companies responsible for around half of global oil and gas production have a near zero methane target for 2030, will they deliver?

During the Global Leadership Panel discussing 'Leveraging permitting reforms to drive decarbonization and global energy security in 2024', Sen. Mary Landrieu, Co-Chair, Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future & Senior Policy Advisor, Van Ness Feldman LLP commented: "Our LNG can displace coal, which is much more damaging to the planet than natural gas. I know not all of our courts see it this way, but the economics of it is clear: gas can replace coal. As we introduce methane reduction and CCS, we have an even stronger chance to push forwards with LNG. So why are we not running headfirst into this?" Join the energy conversation at #Gastech.

Executive Director - #Greenhydrogen @ ≤ US$2/Kg & #Greenammonia @ ≤US$400/Metric Ton. May help in winning RTC (Round the Clock) Renewable Energy projects
Kim Hedegaard - Asking oil companies to compensate may seem like one approach to making #Greenhydrogen or its derivatives affordable, but it’s unlikely to be feasible for companies or countries that have already absorbed profits. As we face a climate emergency, finding an urgent and viable path forward is critical. Recent attempts by many early movers in #Greenhydrogen and #Greenammonia projects around the world have fallen short of expectations. Several have struggled to even complete their #FEED (Front-End Engineering & Design), while few are still pressing ahead with sub-optimal technologies, causing project costs to soar by as much as 60%. Some have shifted focus to producing the #Blue versions of these #Greenfuels. In recent months, I had the opportunity to review several #FEEDs globally from lender’s perspective, and many of these projects were disqualified due to their unsustainable production costs. For example, the cost of #Greenammonia surpassed US$1,200 per metric ton, with no buyers willing to commit to long-term offtake agreements. Thus, it is essential to focus on lowering production costs by adopting the right technologies, ultimately bringing costs below $400 per metric ton. Achieving this will eliminate many current barriers, and I can demonstrate how producing #Greenammonia for under $400 per metric ton is indeed possible. While I acknowledge Topsoe's expertise in #Greenammonia, I intend to focus on additional aspects that can help us achieve the desired results. Happy to discuss.
“I'm of the strong opinion that those of us who are the most privileged, who have made money off the oil and gas industry for the last 200 years, are the ones that need to pay for this.” In my interview with H2 View, I address the challenges of reaching cost parity for green #hydrogen and why the burden shouldn’t be placed on those who can least afford it. The responsibility to fund this transition lies with the ones that have benefited from the use of fossil fuels! The European Commission has told 23 EU member states to urgently submit final national energy and climate plans after the deadline for submission expired on 30 June. The plans can be instrumental for securing EU funding for projects and require member states to outline national strategies for meeting 2030 decarbonisation and renewables targets. #EU #EnergyTransition #GasMattersToday https://lnkd.in/e8rv4Jmq

🌍📢 Today the European Parliament officially adopted the gas and hydrogen package, a key part of the European #GreenDeal, aiming to replace fossil gas with "decarbonized" alternatives and pave the way for a future hydrogen market. Our analysis highlights both progress and shortcomings of the package: ❌it falls short of providing a clear framework for phasing out fossil gas ✔️it initiates positive steps toward decommissioning unnecessary gas grids and prioritising hydrogen for key sectors. The adopting revisions are blurring the lines between the #fossilgas and hydrogen industries at a critical moment when we require clear, safe, and sustainable actions. 🔍 Read more and find our analysis here https://lnkd.in/d9b2AaS5

Just came across a series of excellent reports from Brown University on disinformation and the offshore wind industry in the US. The most recent report from February 2024 looks at how elected representatives spread disinformation, some of it originating with fossil fuel funders. https://lnkd.in/gGvVmNT4

“If you want to get to Net Zero, how much are you prepared to pay towards the cost of decarbonising, let's say, people's homes?” Mike Foster, CEO of the Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA) told Gas Matters today. “We really need to have that honest and open conversation.” As voting continues in the UK, industry leaders urge the next government to put consumers at the heart of energy policy. #UKgeneralelection2024 #UKpolitics #GasMattersToday https://lnkd.in/eKBnvbFu
