What caught the eye of Greg Jackson when he first heard about Xlinks? The Octopus Energy founder and CEO personally invested in Xlinks years ago and felt so strongly about cleaning up the planet and the urgency in tackling climate change, that he soon spoke to his Octopus Energy colleagues and investors about backing the project too. "I was absolutely thrilled when I heard about Xlinks and met the incredibly talented people that were building out this project. The reality is, if we can shift oil and gas around the world, it's cheaper and easier to move electricity. It's just no one had done it," he said. Yesterday, Xlinks Morocco-UK Power Project CEO, James Humfrey, spoke about the rise of the mega project at the Climate Action Climate Innovation Forum, a flagship event during London Climate Action Week. Once completed, the project will be the world’s largest subsea power cable to deliver renewable energy from the Moroccan desert to Devon in South West England. Morocco’s renewable energy region of Guelmim-Oued Noun will be connected exclusively to Great Britain via 4000km (2485 miles) HVDC sub-sea cables. Supplying near constant, clean energy to power the equivalent of 7 million British homes all year round. Mega projects like Xlinks' Morocco-UK Power Project, will require sizeable investment. According to the Climate Policy Initiative Report, by 2030 approximately 35 trillion dollars will be needed in the transition away from fossil fuels demands. We're pleased that Octopus Energy is one of a number of significant investors from the energy sector backing the Morocco-UK Power Project, including TAQA Group, TotalEnergies, GE Vernova and Africa Finance Corporation. "It was something I'd always wanted to see." Greg said. #Energy #NetZero #ClimateChange

Another major milestone for Project Nujio’qonik as World Energy GH2 secures a $128M credit facility to fund the continued development of our Renewable Wind Energy to Green Hydrogen project in the Bay St. George region of Newfoundland and Labrador. This credit facility will support the procurement of long lead items such a wind turbine generators, hydrogen electrolyzers, transmission equipment, ammonia plant components, etc. A special thanks to the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, the Honourable Seamus O'Regan, Canada's Minister of Labour and Seniors, and The Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development, Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Member of Parliament, Long Range Mountains, for their leadership and courage in spearheading the federal government’s support for Canada’s first commercial-scale green hydrogen/ammonia production facility on the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. A heartfelt thanks to the talented team at Export Development Canada | Exportation et développement Canada, who on behalf of the Government of Canada, recognized and seized the opportunity to support Project Nujio’qonik through to its financial close of its long-term financing. Today marks Day 616 since World Energy GH2 first registered its environmental application in Newfoundland and Labrador back in June 2022. We have quietly celebrated some successes and respectfully managed through some setbacks, but it should be clear to all those who are relying on this Project to bring their brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, friends and loved ones back home to work and prosper, that our resolve has never been stronger to see this project through to its successful conclusion. And in the process, we will stand up a brand-new global renewable energy industry and position Newfoundland and Labrador at the forefront of climate change action and prosperity…where we belong! Next up…our Environmental Impact Statement release from the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador Department of Environment and Climate Change. Public comments are due by March 20, 2024. 🔋 Energy is at the heart of both the causes and the solutions to the climate crisis. At the SDG Media Zone: UNGA 78, Wangari Muchiri, Director from Africa Wind Power of Global Wind Energy Council, touched on finances as a a significant barrier to adoption of renewable enrgies, especially in Africa to put projects in place. Skills for manufacturing are also lacking in many parts of the world. The session, moderated by John Timmer, Senior Science Editor of Ars Technica Magazine, covered some of the challenges of the energy transition, and the importance of treating renewable energy technology as a global public good. Bruce Douglas, CEO of Global Renewables Alliance, spoke on the need for good policy frameworks and aggressive scaling of renewable energies from policy makers. Experts agree - there is no credible path to net-zero emissions without a significant and rapid expansion of clean energy technologies. #SDGLive #SDGs #UNGA78 #UNGA
