Why does Your Own Place exist? The answer to this question is as prevalent now as when we were founded in 2013. Your Own Place was borne from recognising that many people struggle to navigate the complex challenges of housing, finance, and tenancy sustainment. The increasing cost of living and strain on support services means that more people than ever are facing hardship and homelessness. Our workshops build financial literacy, tenancy knowledge, and life skills by promoting resilience and empowering individuals to find their own solutions. By addressing both the immediate tenancy challenges and long-term social mobility issues, it is possible to prevent homelessness and ensure everyone has the opportunity for a safe and secure home. What is one step can you take in your complex situation today? People who step in instead of away are my heroes. And my encouragement. The complexity: response to people living outdoors. Why do we do it? How do we do it? Who are the decision makers? Who are the funders? How do we learn from the people living this experience and expand our plans to let them help write them? A few of the hundreds of questions. The step: one household that now lives in a home. A #housingfirst step toward stability, calling on people with passion and dedication, federal funds, donations, and many other resources. It's a huge effort that begins with a "simple" mission of "everyone needs a home." Way to go, CATCH Idaho! Here's to 2024.
See all those tiny houses? 👀 Each one represents a household that is no longer experiencing homelessness 🧡🏠 “2023 was our biggest year yet! We proudly provided housing for a record-breaking 225 households, surpassing our previous record by an astounding 52 households! This monumental achievement marked a significant milestone in our relentless pursuit of making home a reality for every individual in the Treasure Valley.” - Stephanie Day, CATCH Executive Director Huge thank you to our staff, partners, volunteers, supporters, and community for making this work possible. Together, we are, and we will continue, to change lives 🧡🏠 To learn more about our impact last year, visit our website and read our 2023 Annual Report: https://lnkd.in/d9uCeveW

Silicon Valley cheerleader. Running for Congress (CA 16). Former Mayor of San José. Jessica García-Kohl’s husband. He/Him.
Two years ago, I met Ludia, who had been living in and out of shelters with her grandsons for months, unable to find an apartment where her housing voucher could be accepted. Recent research shows that nearly half of California’s homeless population is over 50 years old, and metro-specific homelessness rates are driven overwhelmingly by the scarcity of affordable housing supply. As I've urged in my online book, Congress must streamline tax credit financing of housing, and eliminate current statutory barriers to using federal vouchers in more innovative, less costly housing projects, such as the prefabricated, quick-build projects we see in Mountain View, Redwood City, and San Jose. Local communities need a more nimble federal partner to help older Americans, like Ludia, age in dignity. samliccardo.com/plan/

🏗️ Construction starts soon on this new building at Advocates for Children Georgia, which is so very close to my heart, and marks a full circle in my journey. 🏛️ The old building on the Northside of Pittsburgh ignited my passion for community and social justice. There, amid worship and shared meals, I confronted homelessness's harsh realities. Those individuals, weathered by life's trials, have taught me resilience and hope. 🌟 Now, as construction begins on this new project, I'm reminded of the journey that led me here. This building represents not just bricks and mortar, but a beacon of hope for the future. It symbolizes our commitment to addressing pressing social issues, particularly youth homelessness. 👧🏽 Youth homelessness is a complex challenge affecting communities across the country, even rural communities. Despite the picturesque landscapes, many rural youths experience homelessness due to various factors such as poverty, family instability, and lack of affordable housing options. These challenges often go unnoticed, overshadowed by the idyllic image of rural life. I remain hopeful for a future where we can break this cycle of despair. By recognizing the specific needs of rural youth and investing in tailored solutions, we can pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. Every young person deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their zip code. Let's work together to shine a spotlight on rural youth homelessness and create lasting change in our communities. #RuralYouthHomelessness #BrighterTomorrow #CommunitySupport
