Founder of KRTS Transportation Specialists Inc. Transrep Inc. and the Rearview Mirror. Trucking Brat.
One of my favourite reads every month is Today's Trucking magazine. It full of great information. In the January - February issue the Pulse Readers Survey asked some thoughts on Driver Training and the state of truck driver training. Lets look at the numbers: 86% of the participants of the survey were licence to drive a tractor - trailer. This to me is important. Who better to respond. 51% say MELT or now ELT did not improve the quality of entry-level truck drivers. 34% said somewhat. That is not good. The most telling number of all? 82% say newly licensed tractor-trailer drivers need to complete formal apprenticeships. We at KRTS Transportation Specialists Inc support this 100%. Is it time for a Red Seal apprenticeship for truck drivers in Canada? Some of industries best schools and carriers say “YES”. Some of the best insurance companies and brokers say “YES”. The Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada (PTTAC) launched officially in December of 2022 and they say “YES”. The PTTAC mandate includes a number of key objectives, one of them being making commerical truck driving a recognized Red Seal trade in Canada. #realtalk 😎 #raisethebar

This is how you invest in your team and your future talent.
In April 2023, we opened the doors to our industry-leading National Training Centre in Stevenage. The 17,000 sqft facility represents a £500,000 invest in the future of FM. The centre allows our training team to support our growing crop of apprentices, upskill new recruits, and cross-skill our people in multiple disciplines, allowing us to fill skill gaps and protect the longevity of our customers' estates. #WeAreArcus #LearningAndDevelopment #FutureOfFM #FacMan #FacilitiesManagement

Something to think about: The author supports making truck driving a Red Seal occupation in Canada, which would set national standards for skills and knowledge in the profession. Here's a summary of the text in 7 bullet points: Alberta has announced an apprenticeship-style model for truck drivers to be implemented soon. A poll of 77 industry professionals showed unanimous support for an apprenticeship program for truck driving and agreement that it would improve road safety. Surprisingly, 88% of respondents didn't think an apprenticeship model would significantly reduce the number of Driver Inc. carriers. Benefits of recognizing truck driving as a skilled trade include attracting better candidates, reducing turnover, increasing respect for the profession, and improving safety. Challenges to implementing this change include industry fragmentation and potential resistance from gig carriers due to increased costs. The Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada (PTTAC) is working to make truck driving a Red Seal trade, with widespread support from the industry.

Did you know that 80% of Cook apprentices in Canada do NOT complete their Red Seal certification? There are many factors in this conversation but I want to focus on the fact that 24% of Canadians now self identify with having some level of disability such as Mental Health, Literacy, Learning challenges, Dyslexia, or a physical health barrier. This Federally funded program is designed to help with supports to break down the barriers that are keeping apprentices from acheiving their RSE. What sets FIRST apart is its inclusivity. It's accessible for individuals who "Self-identify" with a disability, including mental health challenges, learning disabilities, or physical disabilities. We recognize that sometimes these barriers can be the only thing holding apprentices back from reaching their full potential. Here are some of the accommodations we've already been able to provide through the FIRST program: - Personalized one-on-one support to overcome individual challenges. - Provision of comfortable and safe PPE tailored for women apprentices. - Access to assistive technologies for visual, hearing, or learning-impaired individuals. - Case-by-case tuition support for specific trades. - Wage subsidies (up to 12 weeks) to gain valuable trade experience. - Funding for tutoring to help apprentices get started. The great news is that this program is available in every province and territory in Canada, and the funding will continue until 2025. Has Anyone else Noticed these Posts about Apprentices starting today at Companies in Europe? This is about he third one I've seen already, it would be awesome to see these posts coming from companies in North America. I know we have a long, long way to go to develop a system for apprentices similar to what they do in Europe. But we have to start somewhere and at some time! Let's continue to educate about the skilled trades and change perceptions. It's going to take a group effort from those of in the skilled trades to push this along. Keep supporting people like Andrew Bird and sharing his videos! #skilledtrades #careers #future #nextgenskilledtrades

Here you have it folks ... #ProofPerfect that the American Trucking Associations gives a crap about #SAFETY... and is #ONLY concerned about #KeepingDriverWagesLow and #PROFITS !! ================================= "Younger Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program Flounders in Red Tape However, among the motor carrier requirements for participation in the final regulation from Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration were the installation and use of inward-facing cameras and that motor carriers receive approval as a #RegisteredApprenticeshipProgram from the U.S. Department of Labor. Although the younger-driver pilot program opened for applications in August 2022, more than a year later, it still had not gotten enough participants for a statistically valid research effort. According to the American Trucking Associations, the apprenticeship program was capped at 3,000 participating drivers at any one time, but only a few dozen had enrolled. As HDT previously reported, the topic was one of several that a House subcommittee grilled then-FMCSA administrator Robin Hutcheson on in December 2023. In that hearing, Cory Maloy (R-UT) charged that the program had requirements that were not in the IIJA that made it too difficult to qualify. The American Trucking Associations and the The International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) championed a provision in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, signed in March, which said Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration may #NOT #require motor carriers wishing to participate in the SDAP Program to use inward-facing cameras or become DOL-registered apprenticeship programs." ======================== So, since the program is a flop, let's #LOWER the standards to make the #Biden Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation look good? Mere, #INSANITY and a #CORRUPTION of the High Standards that Professional Truck Drivers hold themselves to !!
Younger-Driver Pilot Program Drops 2 Controversial Requirements

One way of training for your future occupation in Germany is by pursuing a dual vocational training programme. Such programmes offer plenty of opportunities for on-the-job training and work experience. Programmes usually last between two and three and a half years and consist of theoretical as well as practical elements. You will spend one or two days a week, or several weeks at once, at vocational school (Berufsschule) where you will acquire the theoretical knowledge needed in your future occupation. The rest of the time will be spent at a company, where you get to apply your newly acquired knowledge in practice, for example by learning to operate machinery. You will get to know what your company does, learn how it operates, and find out if you can see yourself working there after completing your training. The combination of theory and practice gives you a head start for your job: by the time you have completed your training, you will not only have the required technical knowledge, but you will also have hands-on experience in your job. There are 327 officially recognised training programmes in Germany, so there is a good chance that one of them might suit your interests and talents. You can find out which one that might be by visiting one of the job and vocational training fairs in many German cities at different times during the year. Information on when and where the fairs take place can be found on the Planet Beruf website. Employment prospects for students who have completed a dual vocational training programme are excellent. This is one of the reasons why this kind of training is very popular amongst young Germans: around two thirds of all students leaving school go on to start vocational. #ausbildung #ausbildung2024 #Pflegefachmann #pflegefachkraft #hotelfachmann #restaurantfachmann #gastronomie #gastgewerbe

Excellent initiative.
Two weeks left to apply! It is still the case that the UK craft sector does not accurately reflect the diversity of the UK as a whole and, for this reason, Heritage Crafts and the City & Guilds Foundation are taking positive action to target this bursary at Black and ethnically diverse groups who are currently under-represented in the craft sector. We believe that the value of our craft heritage comes from the diversity of skills and traditions across all of our communities, wherever they originated and whenever they were brought here. We want everyone to feel included in Heritage Crafts and our work, no matter how long they have called this country home or what their background may be. You could be just starting out on your journey in craft or at the point where you want to turn a hobby into a career, or you could already be a maker who is looking to further develop your heritage craft skills. Our training bursaries for Black and ethnically diverse trainees are supported by City & Guilds Foundation and are part of a wider scheme of training bursaries currently available. Find out how to apply at https://lnkd.in/er7sDUip. The deadline is 5 July 2024.
