"We all have so much to learn from Indigenous land and water managers about how we can better protect the diverse lands and waters of this country – and land managers have so much to share and learn from each other." - Tanya Plibersek, Minister for the Environment and Water. Good to see rangers connecting up and sharing knowledge on Larrakia Country for the #2024LandWaterManagementForum.

Human-wildlife conflict mitigation awareness is essential for fostering harmony between humans and the natural world. As human populations encroach further into wildlife habitats, conflicts inevitably arise, posing risks to both humans and animals. By raising awareness about this issue, communities can implement sustainable solutions to mitigate conflicts. Education plays a crucial role in this endeavor. Teaching communities about the importance of coexisting with wildlife and the potential dangers of conflicts can help individuals make informed decisions. Strategies such as proper waste management to reduce attraction for wildlife, securing livestock to prevent predation, and using deterrents to keep animals away from human settlements are vital components of conflict mitigation. Furthermore, fostering a deeper understanding of the ecological significance of wildlife and the benefits they provide can lead to more empathetic attitudes towards cohabitation. Creating wildlife-friendly habitats and corridors can help maintain biodiversity while minimizing potential conflicts. In conclusion, human-wildlife conflict mitigation awareness is not only about protecting human lives and property but also about preserving the rich tapestry of life on our planet. Through education, advocating for sustainable practices, and promoting empathy towards wildlife, we can work towards a future where humans and animals can peacefully coexist. The real wealth of the Nation lies in the resources of the earth - soil, water, forests, minerals, and wildlife." - Rachel Carson Tejal Pohekar

Thanks to the incredible effort of more than 150 volunteers we were able to distribute 5,000+ Stand Up for Nature and Climate Action Now signs as well as tens of thousands of our election scorecards in the lead up to the Queensland election. This HUGE people-powered effort helped win some key policy commitments from the Queensland LNP, including: 👏 Support for legislating Queensland’s Australian-leading 75% by 2035 emission reduction target. ☀️ A Solar for Renters policy that is funded to help 7,500 households. 🌳 A commitment to not change Queensland’s vegetation management laws. 🐨 Funding for 150 extra rangers in the next four years for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Indigenous Land and Sea Rangers. Queensland still has a long way to go to protect threatened species, expand national parks and decarbonise our economy – but we have an amazing community that will keep fighting for the changes we need.

Supporting landowners to rewild | Practical advice through Rewilding Network | Ecologist |Views are my own
We've got a long way to go to hit the nature recovery at scale needed in Britain The amount of land that is protected for nature in England has fallen to just 2.93%, despite government promises to conserve 30% of it by 2030 We know how we can restore nature at the landscape and seascape scale. #Rewilding focuses on restoring natural processes across large areas, supporting functioning ecosystems. We need to focus on removing barriers and providing financial support for areas where nature recovery is most suitable. We can accelerate efforts, but we need to act fast and #ThinkBigActWild https://lnkd.in/egfZdGfK

Restoring rivers can help lessen the impact of floods and droughts and deliver other benefits for people and nature. WWF's new #Rivers2Restore report identifies key opportunities and case studies of river restoration in Europe, including the March/Morava River on the border between Austria and Slovakia, the Bela River in Slovakia, and the Danube Delta in Romania. This is what the new EU Nature Restoration Law means in practice, benefits and all. WWF Central and Eastern Europe

Have you heard about the #30by30 target? 🎯 Australian governments are working together to achieve a national target to protect and conserve 30% of Australia’s land and 30% of marine areas by 2030. To do this, we’ve released the National Roadmap for protecting and conserving 30% of Australia’s land by 2030. Over 22% of Australia’s land, including inland waters, is protected. We need to protect an additional 60 million hectares of land to meet this target. The roadmap will help coordinate national efforts towards the 30 by 30 land target. It complements: 🌱 Australia’s Strategy for the National Reserve System 🔗 https://brnw.ch/21wNJoF 📍 Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) Framework 🔗 https://brnw.ch/21wNJoH 🤝 relevant state and territory policies. Great initiative – which aims to ensure 300,000km of degraded rivers and 350 million hectares of degraded wetlands are under restoration by 2030 as well as protect critical freshwater ecosystems
The road to #resilience is a river! Today's theme for #WorldEnvironmentDay could not be more urgent: land restoration, stopping desertification & building drought resilience. 45 countries are committed to tackling this together through the Freshwater Challenge. Last week we met to discuss how we do this faster and better to meet #GBF targets to restore 300,00km of #rivers and 350 million ha of #wetlands. It gives me hope to work with representatives from the 45 countries and the EU, plus the dedicated supporting partners of the Freshwater Challenge 💙 Cathrine Mutambirwa Francesca Antonelli Lis Mullin Bernhardt Stuart Orr Stuart Crane James Dalton Jerker Tamelander Frank Mols Ian Harrison Sarah Davidson Philip Leonard Richard Lee Flore Lafaye de Micheaux Salma Zeid Ingrid Timboe Shahbano Tirmizi Flavia Rocha Loures, LL.M, Ph.D Paula Martinelli Benjamin Christ https://lnkd.in/e-BnaUEY
