1769 CYCLICAL NATURE of STYLES -Gautam Shah https://lnkd.in/dVtPR73P The cyclical nature of design trends refers to the recurrence of compositions, certain styles’ features, patterns, motifs, strokes, colours and materials. These occur as repetitions, re-adoptions and improvisations and cyclical vortices or swirls. In all these the context, purpose or the setting for purpose, are vastly different. Architecture, literature, performing arts go through adaptations, when the process of creativity is dulled by too many alien or superfluous elements and overwhelming historical references.

🌷🎞 Recently we launched a new #immersive project, 'Passion for Architecture', in collaboration with the National Center for Contemporary Arts. We did not set out to tell the history and theory of architecture in dry academic language. The project aims to show the viewer the evolution of architectural styles through symbolic and emotional means. All the techniques characteristic of contemporary art, all the methods of influencing the viewer - light, sound, spatial objects and installations, video art, works of art in various techniques and even smells, which form the basis of the exposition, serve first of all the main purpose - to create an emotional experience of the space of this or that architectural style or even of the whole epoch, because it is the essence of the aesthetic perception of architecture. 🎥 The logical conclusion of the project is an immersive film "The World through Gaudi's Eyes". It gives the viewer an opportunity to look at the most famous works of the genius Spanish artist Antonio Gaudi from a different perspective. Architectural masterpieces, including the famous Sagrada Familia, are presented in a new way thanks to the projection of the film on the walls and floor of the multimedia hall. CONSIDERING TIME in DESIGN -Issues of Design 47 (NEW ) https://lnkd.in/dZiTZpFB All expressions, be of art, architecture, performing arts or literature, carry the changes, like, repeats, corrections, breaks change of the pace, pauses, starts or ends, as the time-marks. The Space is the intervening phenomenon at the time marks. The intervening space is an enigma, due to the surprises, uncertainties or and conformity. Space seems perceptively variable. But this is not due to altered physical characteristics of space, (like size, shape, extent, etc.), but due to the perceived duration, paces and distance, of time. Such anomalies of perception occur because the mind that notes the time is busy doing many things simultaneously, and without any logic.

The Artifact: A Postcard of The Germania Institute “From this hasty sketch the reader can form an idea of the size and capacity of the institute which is estimated, will cost between $12,000 and $13,000 and will not only prove an ornament to that locality but a monument to the liberality and enterprise of the society whose name it bears, and under whose auspices it is erected.” Daily Courier, May 12, 1877. Located at 1003 Lapeer, the cornerstone of the Germania Clubhouse – originally the building’s official title was the Germania Institute – was laid on July 5, 1877. Organized in 1856, according to author James C. Mills: “of all the German societies in Michigan, the Germania stands second to none in the State.” Although this was not the first or only structure constructed by the group at this location, it was the organization’s home for almost a century. The design of the Germania Institute will seem vaguely familiar for those of you who read last week’s artifact post about the East Saginaw Arbeiter Hall. Although constructed several years after the Germania Institute, the Arbeiter was designed by the same architect, Fred W. Hollister. When the Arbeiter Hall was completed, the newspaper remarked on the two buildings’ resemblance. This was almost certainly a deliberate design decision. Separated by only a couple of blocks of residences, the two structures were visual anchors in the neighborhood and were a reminder of the German American heritage of many of the district’s residents. In 1970 the Germania Club constructed a new headquarters at 2099 Wheeler. The new facility included a golf course. The 1877 building was sold and was severely damaged by a fire in 1972. A second blaze in 1973 destroyed the building completely. At its new location, the Germania continued to thrive; however, by 2010 declining membership made the club unsustainable. On January 2, 2011, The Saginaw News reported: “The 154-year-old institution ceased to exist at the stroke of midnight.” The Castle Museum’s collection includes original architectural drawings for the Germania Institute and drawings for later alterations. (Among the many items relating to the Germania in the Castle Museum’s collection are the drawings for the Germania Building, a commercial structure on the southeast corner of East Genesee and South Baum. However, that is another artifact and another story.) #ArtifactSat

I was being introduced recently and the speaker said... ...she's great with manipulatives! (my mind automatically went to manipulation and 😳 ) No matter what you call them... they are the loose parts that occupy your museum by the hundred OR THOUSANDS (if you're lucky). In our session at the Association of Children's Museums annual conference this year we talked about how you can take one of your favorite loose parts and turn it into the focus of a full on Transitional Exhibit**! Here you'll see how the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples leaned into the foam brick option from Playlearn USA and created a transitional space that specifically focused on Building Materials. Beyond the THOUSANDS of bricks that were available, there were... tool belts hard hats storage areas seating wall graphics a special logo and even a wooden climber to build around! This is how Transitional Exhibits take shape. Not just a building material put out in the middle of a space, but a space with compliments to make the building material shine and to bring inspiration to all the young contractors, brick layers, laborers, artists, designers, architects, demo experts and supervisors. Exhibits that can go into storage and then pop back out for a shorter period of time to create a new exhibit space. Not a traveling exhibit, not facilitated by staff, not just a cart of blocks in an empty room, but a full exhibit that just 'pops up' and fits right in with the rest of the museum exhibits.
